There are many symptoms and conditions that result from overuse of mobile technology and devices. I'm just going to name some of the most common insomnia is a result of the blue light that comes from our screens. The blue light signals our brains to make less of the hormone melatonin. Melatonin is the hormone that signals the rest of our body to shut down and go to sleep. The blue light also signals our brain to make less of the hormone serotonin. When it's out of balance, we don't feel as happy and we don't feel as peaceful.
We can become more aggressive and easily irritated. Beyond just simple neck pain, neck muscular pain, text neck can also cause problems with the nerves with arteries, sometimes with little ligaments and joints so we see more TMJ ad more issues with jaw pain and grinding. We see more arthritis, not only in the thumbs, fingers and hands but also in the neck. We see more carpal tunnel syndrome as well. And more tendinitis in the forearms, more sharp and nervy pain in the shoulders, the upper backs and the upper arms. And often the issues in the upper body will continue their way down the body.
And the imbalance will make its way down into the abdomen and the lower back the hips, even the knees and feet. So depending on the amount of time that the postural misalignment has been active, and a host of other factors, including the person's individual health patterns and any previous injuries, you could see very, very mild symptoms like an occasional headache or a tight neck or shoulder muscle. Or you could see conditions that are as serious as a spinal degeneration or herniations. Sometimes even problems with your respiratory and digestive functions over time, when the body is in a chronically hunched over position, all of these organs are compressed and not able to heal themselves to nourish themselves or to even work properly. There are even more symptoms than I named. And over time, this dysfunctional posture and behavior can take its toll.
Unless we step up and do something about it. We create a new behavior. We create a new way of being In our body, and of being with our body. We build habits that not only relieve pain but increase our energy in our joyfulness for life.
