I know that I'm going to need some kind of transparent cover over this light. So let's just quickly sketch something out for that. Let's go to assemble new component. Let's call it light cover and hit OK. And just to make a really simple geometry, since we're just visualizing in 3d here, let's go to sketch create sketch. And let's choose this plane. And then let's just draw two circles like this.
See how big these are. So the diameter of this circle is 3.5 inches can make that Let's delete this. It looks like it pulled a constraint and let's go ahead and delete this outside circle. Okay. Got a sketch sketch dimension. Let's make this three inches and then make this 2.9 make it 2.8 and stop sketch.
And now let's extrude this and I can rotate it to generally see how big I might want this compared to my other parts that are grayed out here. Maybe about like So I'll hit OK. And then I want it to be transparent. let's right click and go to appearance. And let's make it out of glass for now. And let's just do a clear glass. Right click and hit OK. Let's activate the full assembly.
And now we have somewhat of a cover around the light. I can pull our parts more interesting Here ask ourselves if this makes sense, I'm going to have a ground steak at the bottom. So this is a steak that will be pushed into the grass. I have my lights and some kind of a clear cover over the top of the light. This led should be close to the type of light we're looking for. And then I have a solar cell On top we found a solar cell and found exact dimensions of the solar cell through Amazon.
And then it pulled in a double A battery, which is going to be standard size. Of course, when I put when I imported this battery, also want to make sure that it's the proper size of a battery. So you want to double check everything anything that you import, make sure that it is the correct size. And again, you can do that by going to inspect measure, and you can measure out the different dimensions of this battery and make sure that it is the proper size of a double A battery, or whatever it is that you pulled in. And so this length here is around. Yeah, the distance here is around two inches, which is close to what I know the battery to be, but we need to, but we can, when you get precise, make sure that it's exactly what it's supposed to be.
But right now, here's what we have. So this is our speed model. This gives me a pretty good idea of you know, how things might fit together in 3d, how the components will be positioned relative to each other. And you can just use the millions of different CAD files on the internet. So these CAD files are going to be in CAD databases. And also companies that are selling products give you free CAD models a lot of the time for parts and so you can pull in free CAD models from companies websites that are selling products.
You can Pull them from CAD databases and you have a ton that you can quickly pull in just to get an idea of what your design might look like. And so this speed modeling process or this, you know, thinking in your CAD program can be done with with any design, you should be able to find, as we said, any CAD model online, even, you know, very large things, very complex things, of course, I should be able to pull in a model of a full car quite quickly. If I wanted to do that and needed to get a picture of, you know, what is the relative size of a car next to some new car component that I'm designing that you can get very complex. This is a great thing to do when you have an idea and you just want to quickly see what it looks like get a quick visualization of what it looks like we can do this, you know, with a ton of things within just you know, say half an hour, you should be able to get a pretty good idea.
Next, we're going to get Get into the detailed design of this solar light. See you there.
