Identify the 20% of reporters that will give you the greatest return on investment. identify opportunities where you might pitch stories in those outlets. Second, identify appropriate reporters and bloggers. What did they cover also called their beats? Have they written on similar products or services or companies in the past? Third, send chicken salad worthy pitches. The more newsworthy items you can package together timing, significance, prominence, proximity, conflict and human interest, the better your chances of securing a story. Fourth, respect reporters bloggers preferred contact method.
Most prefer email most hate cold calls, most hate follow up calls. Fifth, always add value. Don't just follow up to follow up Add more information to sweeten the story, a new stat fact or proof point. Finally build relationships. Don't just look for one and done transactional stories.
