In this video, we're going to go over mistaken certainties, and how these actually affect us in being able to expand our awareness. Because when we're able to expand our awareness, we become more aware of things around us and possibilities. Right. And oftentimes, the mistaken certainties that we have, you know, as convictions, right, they tend to get in our way. So I'm going to go ahead and walk you through what these typically are, and how we can overcome these here. Okay, so with mistaken certainties, these are things that we know that are true, right, but in fact, are not right there true for ourselves.
There are beliefs that we have about ourselves, or about a certain thing, because of our experiences, right? And they're generally based on wishful thinking which distorts reality, and leads to self deception. So we essentially want things to be as we would like them to be, rather than how they really are, right? We only want to change ourselves to the degree that We become aware of our mistaken certainties. Think about all those convictions and beliefs that you may have. That may not be 100% true, that may just be your own beliefs, right, that you have about yourself that you have about, let's say, a certain skill set that you have or don't have, in that you may believe that you're not good enough or that you're not good enough to be able to become proficient in that skill, or develop a new skill, right?
And a great quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson is we are what we think about all day long. So everything that is happening to you right now in your mental, physical and emotional world is a result of what is going on in your mind. And if you recall from one of the other lectures, I mentioned that how you're feeling inside, what you think about yourself, the world inside, right is what is going to reflect in the external world, right? That is your projector, your eyes, you're seeing exactly what you think about In the world, as far as yourself internally, and so to put it more precisely, you accept, relate or reject everything in your mental and physical environment based on your present level of awareness, right, because you have a belief about something, and you think that it's true 100% of the time, but it may just be true for you for your present level of awareness.
And so your present level of awareness is determined by your education, environment, family life, childhood experiences, successes, failures, right beliefs, in religion, all these different things are what really shape up your present level of awareness. And so by expanding your level of awareness, you'll remove the mistaken certainties which have been keeping you from being the self confident person that you would like to become. right because you have all these beliefs. You have all these certainties that are mistaken that have been created through all these different experiences. So, in this course, because you're going to have all these different techniques, these strategies, these methods that you're going to be able to use so that you can expand your awareness and be able to overcome problems and mental blockages, mental negative trains of thoughts, write that happened to you all the time, where you would typically feel stuck.
Now you're going to be even more resourceful because you have an expanded sense of awareness. And we find it very, very difficult to change our present level of awareness, because there are a lot of different things that are in our way. And here's some of the reasons why it's very difficult for us to change our present level of awareness. So what we're picturing and imagining in our minds is based on now right what we believe to be true right here right now, regardless of how faulty or distorted it may be. Our minds control our actions and reactions, and it's easier to get excuses or as we prefer to call them logical reasons. And why it isn't necessary or even possible to change.
And so we only seek those experiences that support our present values and avoid or resist, if necessary, right? forcibly reject those which are inconsistent with our existing beliefs. So if we believe that we're not good enough, if we believe that we are not able to become a more confident person, well, you know what, that's going to be exactly what we have in our life, which is no confidence because it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. If you, for example, went to school and you're told that you were not good at math, and you took that into your entire life. And that's a belief you have about yourself that you're not good at math. And you know what, you're going to go through life and you're going to reject any potential opportunity to become better at math because you have always had the thought, the idea right, the label on you that you are not good at maths, you're not going to put yourself In situations where you can improve, because you have already defined yourself as someone who is not good at math, right?
So we've built in programmed into our subconscious minds, and central nervous systems, the wrong responses to life situations that cause us to respond the way that we have been programmed, right? So in other words, we respond to the way that we have been conditioned to feel an act. And this system is really of our own creation. And we can only change his patterns if we understand how it works, and understand different techniques and strategies that we can use to combat them. Right. So we rationalize our actions based on our present level of awareness.
However faulty it may be. So how do we expand our level of awareness, okay, and so you expand your level of awareness by ceasing to automatically and arbitrarily defend your personal viewpoints as right or wrong. defending them keeps you in ignorance by blocking the perception of new ideas. If you're not able to have an open mind about something, or about certain things that may not be 100% wrong or right, then you're not going to be able to expand your awareness because you're stuck in one place, right? And also by reassessing your concepts, values, beliefs, right hopes, dreams, goals, and compulsions, right? reorganizing an understanding your real needs and motivations.
And by asking the right questions is how you're going to be able to understand that in observing your mistakes and trying to correct them, and being aware that some of those mistakes, right are some of the most valuable lessons that you're going to learn. And also by learning to listen without prejudging and automatically thinking, this is good, this is bad, this is wrong and training yourself to listen to what is being said without necessarily believing it. Right you saying hey, you know what, that's a very interesting point or, you know, interesting concept. Hey, you know, I don't really know for sure. Let me do some research on it and find out if it makes sense. Or if it's true or not, right?
I mean, you don't always have to believe something that someone says because they're in a place of authority, right? You have to make your own judgments. And it's very, very rarely that something is either 100%, right? Or 100%. Wrong. It's typically in the middle, right?
And so when you are able to be more open minded, you're not taking things for just a simple black or white answer, okay. And also realizing that ultimately, your new awareness is going to provide you with the means and motivation to change for the better. There's only room to grow and improve if you follow this course. If you utilize the strategies, the techniques that I'm going to share with you, you're going to be able to expand your awareness, you're going to be more open about different things, and you're going to be more resourceful. So that's going to be here for this video, and we'll see you on the next one. Thanks.
