So what exactly is confidence? Let's go right ahead and jump into this, I want to share with you the definition of confidence and how even though you think you don't have confidence, you still may have it. So let's go right ahead and jump into this here. So confidence is a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities and judgment within a certain context. So it's important to understand that it has to be within a certain context, right? Because you can be confident in one particular area, but then not be confident in another.
Let's say, for example, that you are totally confident as far as being a manager, and you're really good with working with people, you're really good with managing them, making sure that they are able to accomplish a certain set of tasks, follow directions, whatever that may be right managing people, but you're not confident speaking in public. So confidence builds by taking action and trying Things that you find hard, right? Because everything that you do initially is going to be difficult. But once you go outside of your comfort zone, and you understand, you know what, when I do this, when I look to try to be a public speaker, or when I'm trying to speak in public, I know that I may mess up, I know that I may not be good at it in the very beginning. But if I continue to practice, if I continue to put myself out there, then I know that I'm eventually going to become a whole lot better.
And eventually, it will come to a point where I will be able to speak in public without any kind of hesitation, without any kind of issues because I've rehearsed, right, I've gone through the actual public speaking process many times in my mind. So the point here is to understand that no matter what you're doing initially in the very beginning, you're always Going to have hiccups, you're not going to do it perfectly well the very first time. But you have the understanding that I know that I'm going to have hiccups. I know that I'm going to fail initially, but I'm going to get better as I go. And I'm going to face a bunch of obstacles, but I can overcome those because I've been able to overcome obstacles in different areas of my life, right? That's the biggest thing there is being able to transfer confidence in one area to the other.
So in this particular example, where somebody may be confidence as a manager, right, they didn't wake up automatically becoming a great manager, right? Very, very rarely do people just all of a sudden, hey, you know, I'm a good manager, right? They have to put themselves in a position to fail, right where they're uncomfortable in order for them to get good. So by utilizing that resource of knowing that hey, I've been confident and am successful in certain areas, I know that I can also become successful in other areas as well that are new to me. Now, for some people, here's the thing, confidence is natural to them. They can just wake up out of bed, and they just naturally are able to speak in front of people.
They are naturally just confident about everything and anything that they do, because they have really found themselves to be resourceful. Right. And that's the biggest thing with being resourceful is understanding that if you are successful in one area, it's easily transferable to another. For the most part, most of us have to develop our confidence, right? And there's no limit to how confident you can learn to become by becoming resourceful. Right, you have succeeded in one area of your life right now.
And you can also succeed in a different area and build up that confidence with going through a specific process that we're going to go through in this course. So that's going to be a here as far as understanding what exactly is confidence and we'll see you on the next one.
