Okay, so one of the most important things you can do to promote your website online is to create a blog as everybody knows, and the blog should be full of the most engaging, informative, value packed posts that you can ever write. If you write really good posts, people will share them, people will link to them. One of the ways of getting people to share them, of course, is to put social media buttons in there. If you see a tweet button, a Google Plus button, or a Facebook light button by a post that you've enjoyed reading, you're 10 times more likely to click on it. And so I would advise anyone to put these buttons social media sharing buttons to the fore and any blog post. So we haven't done that yet on this sight.
And there's 1,000,001 ways to do this mostly by plugins. And one of the plugins you can use to do this is called dig dig. So let's go into the back end. And under plugins, let's add new. And let's search for dig, dig. And there it is install now and activate and they have the dig dig button activated.
And here you have a new tab on the left hand side where you can configure the plugin. And so there's some global configurations. Firstly, here, you can configure the button slightly, it's a good idea to add your Twitter account, but as we haven't created one yet for this site, we'll do that later. There's other configurations here that you can put in. But what we want to do is have a floating display First of all, and we have the floating display enabled. We wanted on the posts.
That's a very good idea because you don't want social sharing buttons on The static pages like the home page, the About Us page, the Contact Us page, we just wanted on the blog posts. We also specify the categories. But obviously, we want the social media sharing icons on all categories, all blog posts, and it's 40 pixels to the left of the content. We'll leave it at that for now. See how we get on. And here you can tick which ones we want.
And we've got some very normal ones in here like Twitter buffer, that's for people who've signed up to buffer can shedule a tweet to be in an hour's time or something like that Facebook, like, of course, Google plus one, LinkedIn, those are the main ones. And if you put too many in like Reddit and D zone and stumble upon, they're not quite so important, and they will slow down the loading time. I'm happy with the way things are at the moment. So we'll save changes and have a look at the blog post. So we refresh, and there are our social media sharing icons, we can tweet this. Now, remember, if we put a Twitter handle in the back end, we could get at the end of this it would say via at Robert cabin or something like that it will have our Twitter handle on it.
But we haven't set up a Twitter account yet. So we'll we'll do that later. Anyway, let's tweet that away. So that's been tweeted, will plus one it and Google comes up with this box, which then disappears sometimes. And why don't we just do it on LinkedIn as well. And we'll post two updates and I'm not gonna put a comment on it.
So there we go. It's all happening it, they all work. There's several other ways of doing this. Some people don't like this floating thing to the side here. Other people like them up here and the beginning of the post or at the end of the post, but more or less, you've got to put some social sharing icons in there. If you have a very visual sight I would put Pinterest in There, but definitely the most important ones are Twitter, Google Plus LinkedIn, and Facebook.
Whoops, we haven't got Facebook. What happened there? Let's have a look at that. Let's go into floating display. And we have the Facebook like enabled. Let's try if we do the Facebook Like in an iframe, and we'll save changes on that.
And refresh. And now we got a Facebook Like, so let's like that. Yeah. So always good to have Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and maybe not LinkedIn. But we've got LinkedIn anyway. And Pinterest if it's very visual, so million and one ways of doing that.
There's one way of doing it. But definitely don't forget to add your social sharing buttons on your blog. Okay, thank you very much. Goodbye.
