Hey, welcome back, Professor Paul here. Now we're going to switch things up just a little bit. And I want you to notice that each bit of wisdom that we're going to share here, starts with understands why? Because understanding is wisdom. So here I asked the question, what's the difference between knowledge and wisdom? Knowledge is information.
Knowledge is facts. Wisdom is how to use that knowledge. It's the application. And we said, knowledge is power. When you apply it, that's wisdom. So knowledge is facts.
Wisdom is the ability to apply it and to apply it with skill. So I just want you to take a little bit more sophisticated approach to these following techniques. As we go through them in start watching them not from a knowledge perspective. Do I get the end information, but understanding application wisdom. That's what I want you to use. Let's jump right in.
So the first tip is the wise leader understands the philosophy of the bloodless coup. This is actually an old ancient ninja strategy. Here's a quote for your notes. The best victory is the victory one without ever striking a blow. That's why they call it the bloodless coup. No blood was spelt.
How would the ninja do this? Well, instead of jumping into the fray with their sword and fighting off all the samurai as they could and trying to win, what they would do is they would sneak into the castle. Steal the document sneak back out. You never saw nobody was injured, bloodless coup. They said that is the best ninja ever. They didn't spill a drop up But they weren't forceful.
They didn't have to use force. You haven't even better Ninja, they use an upgraded philosophy. They say, I'm not even going to go through the risk of going through all these armed guards, maybe having to injure them, or maybe getting caught or killed. I'm gonna bribe somebody to grab me that scroll in the castle. And just hand it to me another bloodless coup at a slightly higher level than going in there and using the classic ninja and visibility covert tactics to get the scroll. So you need to understand how you can use this in business and in leadership.
So one of the ways you can do it is you can say, How can I win somebody over without fighting with them? That's what I call the bloodless coup, in business or in leadership. I want to be able to avoid any at all confrontation. And by acting with wisdom, acting with understanding acting with skill, I can mold them over to my side. So the bloodless coup in this case is largely persuasion strategies. Say I want to do a new strategy, a new technique, a new way of doing business.
And I want to do it because it's going to save the company a bunch of money or make the company a bunch of money. But my boss says, No, I can keep pounding on them. This is conflict. This is bloodletting, about how much money we're going to save. We go back and forth in a fight ensues. What I may want to do is use the ninja strategy of not attacking it from the obvious perspective, this is going to save the company money or make the company money, but sell it win them over based on what is the most important thing to the person I'm trying to convince which is my boss.
My boss may not be so concerned about how How much the company makes as how much he makes. If I figure out how this can get him a promotion or raise somehow a bonus make him more money, then he's very interested in it 10 times more interested than when it's making the company money might be a selfish boss. If I understand that I have understanding wisdom. I can apply that to them. What if their ego is really huge if I say if you do this, you will look so good in front of your bosses, I could easily see you winning that yearly award. This could mean a promotion for it could mean a lot of things.
You're gonna look great in front of your peers. You know that guy down the hall you're always competing with you're going to crush him. He will be so jealous that you picked up on this and he didn't. These are all what I call ninja strategies of getting done. What you want to get done without ever having to struggle, no bloodletting, no fighting no back and forth. You win simply gently and easily.
Why? Because you're acting with skill instead of force. Perfect. Those are the ancient ninja strategies, the philosophy of the bloodless coup takes a long time to learn how to do this, you have to be creative, and you'll find new ways to do this. I've got a whole section on this in my persuasion course. Now, to be an effective leader, you have to really understand why people do the things they do.
So the wise leader understands that everybody has their own blindfold. And I use this graphic here because there's literally places where they are completely blind, as if as blind as those who cannot see right now we all have blind spots. One of the major blind spots, they call this confirmation bias in psychology is you have an idea in your head. You don't examine it. You gather information from the environment to support And because you've got nothing but proof that this is true, and you've never tested it, and you defend against any new information coming in, that would ever attack it or make it look wrong, it looks perfect in your mind. And we do this with most of our ideas.
There's a strange psychological factor that happens. Let me ask you something. Does it feel really good? When you mentioned something? And people say, Yeah, you're right. Absolutely.
You feel fantastic. Let me ask you another question. You mentioned something and somebody jumps up and says, hey, you're wrong. And they prove it and they out you in front of everybody. Now, how do you feel? You feel bad, you feel stupid?
So our self esteem, our ego, our self image to protect us, tries to protect us from ever finding out that even our wrong ideas are wrong. It's trying to defend us how Does it defend us? It defends us with blindness, these blind spots, big fancy psychology terms confirmation bias, all I want to do is confirm, prove that what I already think is true is true. I don't want to hear anything that doesn't match up with this wonderful idea that I have my head is true. And therefore that leaves me with a ton of lies. Matter of fact, the average person, most of what they leave believe the vast majority of what they believe upon rigorous examination is lies.
And it's over 90% that figure just blows me away. Some people say it's as high as 99.9% of everything you believe, if you put it under a microscope, if you rigorously examine it in some way, shape, or form, it would be wrong. I don't know what the exact number is, but it's somewhere between 90 and 99%. That's very high. They say nothing is more rare than ultimate truth, not my truth, not your truth. But what is ultimately true, it's true for everybody.
So we have to understand where people have blind spots and gain skill in helping them to see getting past confirmation bias. This is what I do. When I'm doing therapy with people, they have a blind spot, I have to figure out a way that I can help them to see it get past their shields past their defenses, past this confirmation bias past this blind spot and do it in such a way that it doesn't hurt their ego so they don't put their shields they don't put their defenses up. So, in understanding that everybody has their own blindfold their own blind spots, we have to look for ours. and study the process of how we got past that kindly and gently so we didn't hurt our own ego. That's the exact strategy We're gonna want to use with everybody else.
So always test it on yourself first, the most damaging blind spots are going to be yours. They're also the hardest ones to find. That's why it's great to start with yourself. And once you see your own blind spots, and you understand how you create them, how you maintain them, and how you got past them, you've got every single skill needed to help your staff get past them. And every business has a living entity has blind spots. The corporation has blind spots, areas, they don't see these.
We also have to hunt out and say how can I get people to join with me in a actually seeing these blind spots and be doing something about them. This can revolutionize the corporation. In some ways, if this was the only leadership skill you had, you could be an amazing leader and your profits could soar. blind spots are typically the holes in the boat that are sinking your company that are damaging your staff, your profits virtually every area you can think of. There's no area that a blind spot can hurt your business. But by eliminating these, especially when your competition doesn't, you can gain a massive competitive advantage.
That's it for now. And I'll see you in the very next section.
