Hey everybody, Professor Paul here. Welcome back. I love this tip. Number 55. The wise leader understands that virtually all boundaries are actually illusions. They're fake, they don't actually exist.
Use the skills of your team to help break through them. What do I mean by that? Think of it this way, you've got a challenge, a problem that you think is impossible to solve. It may be based on what your current level of understanding, which means your knowledge to date, or at least the knowledge you can tap into, right? So even though it appears like it's a wall you can't possibly get through. Here's what I'm going to tell you.
Somebody else has already bumped up against this boundary, this challenge this problem, and they found a way to break through. So the question isn't whether you can break through the boundary, whether the boundary is actually an illusion, it's not true boundary. It's just difficult not impossible. The question is whether or not you can find the solution. I remember my friend Nick, he's got multiple, multiple degrees and three or four of each, three or four masters three or four doctorates three or four bachelor's degrees, absolute genius, photographic memory, amazing individual. He taught me that there's this miracle place.
It's called the library. And every problem that anybody's ever had in the history of the world, somebody has found a solution for it, and they've written it down. You just have to find where it is. And then you've got this wonderful person called the librarian behind the help desk here the words help desk that will help you find it. Now, we've upgraded since next year, that with me, we've got Google and you can get the wisdom of a million libraries, and national and international reach in a search engine that's better than any library that ever lived lives or shelter. Live, we have an infinite amount of information and ways to find it.
So I just want you to hold the philosophy that 99.99% of boundaries are actually illusions, in that somebody has found a solution to them, and you just need to find it. So you got to get out there and do the Google search and check in with your team. That's why I say use the skills of your team to break through, have them do the Google search, have them check in with their friends. Maybe it's a legal issue, and they've got a friend who's got a friend who knows a friend who's a lawyer, who also has a team of lawyers that he can ask questions to in their firm, and they can find the solution. There's also the law of six degrees of separation. I remember there was a friend who wanted to get a visit with old George W. Bush.
He wanted to meet the president the united states. That seems like a pretty important simple task. But what he did was he used the law of six degrees of separation. He asked me, Paul, you said you can figure out almost anything. Most boundaries are illusions. Can you get me a lunch with george bush?
And I said, probably not. But I've got an idea. Let me check in with my buddy Nick. I checked it with my buddy Nick. His brother does campaigns for people going for Congress, Senate and sometimes local offices, mayors or governors. So because he's politically connected, Nick's brother was able to connect with another campaign manager who had worked for george bush and was able to get that person the lunch as a personal favor to the brother.
So, Nick, I talked to Nick, talk to Andy, talk to his friend that can't pay talk to push a secretary got the lunch under six degrees of separation. Done. Fantastic. Stick. proving once again, some of these boundaries are illusions, you have to get real good at problem solving. Leadership is all about solving problems.
And that starts with realizing that most boundaries are illusion. Now, tip number 56 kind of expands on this, it says that the wise leader understands that every problem carries a solution with it that will later appear obvious. And this is the quote that I just shared with you every problem you've ever had, somebody else already had, and wrote down the solution. And I got a graphic here of a book, because that was my original way of finding these things. Now we use the internet. But what you're going to find is sometimes with in the problem, you're going to see a solution.
I gave you an example, in a previous section of people seeing a problem as underarm perspiration. Well, it immediately carried with it the solution, which was antiperspirant. How did they find antiperspirant? They found it by searching through the medical literature. As a side effect, there was certain medications certain products that when put on the skin, they had the problem that it stops sweating, when people stop sweating, because you sweat to cool yourself down. One of the medication problems was that people started overheating.
So they saw that is a problem in the medication. Now, given the fact that the medication was topical, if you just put it on that one area, as opposed to like showering with it, it didn't cause a problem. It caused the solution. Stop the sweating in that area, but you still had the entire rest of your skin to respirate he didn't overheat and what was seen as a problem between came with solution. This is a classic thing that happened with post IDs when they were making post IDs which I think in 19 9091 was the number one product of the year the best product that was ever created for that entire year out of everything that was ever invented the post it they were trying to develop a super adhesive that would be stronger than any other adhesive. And one of their failures with was that they came up with this glop.
It was kind of gelatinous. It was kind of jelly like it would stick a little bit but it would peel right off without damaging anything. He was like the worst glue ever. But then they realized if you wiped it on the back of a piece of paper, you could tack things up in the problem of it not working actually became the best product of like 1990 9091 boom. A lot of times problems will carry with it. The solution Say you're trying to get out there and you want to be more visible on the worldwide web.
So your problem is, you don't have enough visibility on the worldwide web. So within that problem, there's actually the solution. You could do what's called video marketing. You are experts on what you do. If you were to take some of the leading experts in your company, videotape them, giving some short tips, putting it in the simple videos and loading them up on YouTube. All of a sudden, all those YouTube videos linking back to your website would get you fresh, qualified leads, the problem would actually be the solution.
See how that works. You just have to be a little bit creative with it. Just remember, remember we said the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit that you had to play detective to find that benefit within the problem? within every problem, there's also a solution, not just a benefit of solution, but you have to play detective to find, how can I find by analyzing my problem, a solution. Sometimes by breaking it down and simplifying it. Remember, we said reduce the complicated to the simple.
If you have a problem, and you break it down, you chunk it down into three or four core components. Whereas for the entire problem, you couldn't see a solution, you may see a solution that will work for one of those four simple basic chunks, those components that will give you part of the answer. By looking at his four simple chunks, it may become so simple that somebody will say, Oh, now I see it, and they come up with an answer. that'll solve two of the chunks or three of the chunks are all for the chunks, like the video solution I just gave you. So great tip. Know that with every problem There's a solution hidden within there.
Tip number 57, the Wise leader understand that change involves letting go of some old ideas and old beliefs. There's a great old quote, I think it's American because it's baseball. You can't get to second base with one foot on first, which means you have to leave where you are to get to where you want to go to what stops people from getting where they are, to where they want to go to. It's their BS. That's right. their belief system, their ideas, their ways of doing things they're getting too locked in.
Locked in is synonymous with being in jail. You're locked in, you can't move when you're locked in here. The words locked in I hate that term, but it's accurate. People are locked into old ideas and locked into a certain way of doing things. That's great if that's the most wonderful thing in the world to do. But when you're trying to change That's a horrible thing.
Because it's going to prevent you from moving forward. So you have to release yourself, unlock yourself from those old ideas and beliefs to take in the new ones. Matter of fact, that's part of my persuasion course. You have to let go of the old idea. And figure out why that idea is wrong or not as good as the new idea. So you can deprogram that old idea, get rid of it, dispute it, till it's basically destroyed.
And then you can install the new idea. We always have to get rid of the old idea before we can go for the new idea. A lot of people in their persuading, they just say, well, I'll keep hammering on the new idea. Now, I have to show you why the old way of thing doing things is failing you and ultimately it's going to lead to your doom. Before I can share with you why my brilliant new idea, my new way, method, system, whatever is going to be fantastic and lead you to massive growth and massive Success. Those are your tips for today.
My name is Professor Paul and I'll see you in the very next section.
