If you have one of these signs, you need to go get this pain investigated and get it checked out further. These are called the red flags. Red Flags means that if you have one of these signs, you should go to a doctor and get the back pain investigated. It's nothing to be alarmed about necessarily, it doesn't mean that you have some severe type of pathology, it does mean that you need to get it checked out.

Let's get into it. The first one is a traumatic event. Now in younger individuals, it will need to be a very high intensity, like a car accident, for example, but an older individually individuals or the elderly population, even minor falls might have potential effects that can be pretty harmful. So if back pain As a result of a traumatic event, and it remains for a few days or weeks after it needs to be checked out. The second red flag is younger individuals. If there's somebody under the age of 20, who suffer from back pain, this needs to be investigated.

The next red flag is a history of cancer. If you have suffered from cancer or a type of malignancy in the past, and you suffer from back pain, you should investigate the cause of this back pain. It might just be unspecific, but it might be related and it's important to rule that out. The next red flag are a few symptoms put together. This include fever for an extended extended period of time. If you have night sweats, you wake up in the middle of the night sweating.

Or if you suffer from weight loss in the last period of time without intentionally trying to lose weight by doing a diet or something of that sort. If you have these symptoms with back pain, it's a red flag And you should go get that checked out if you've had a recent infection, and shortly after started having back pains, you need to make sure that the pains aren't the cause of the infection. This might include getting your teeth worked on, or any other type of infection, including tonsillitis. I won't go into all the types. But if you've had infection, especially a bacterial infection, and shortly after you get back pain, you need to make sure that it's not a cause of the infection. The next red flag is with people who use drugs intravenously.

If you're an IV drug user, and you suffer from back pain, you want to go get that checked out. It might be something dangerous. The next red flag is if the pain wakes you up at night, if you wake up from the pain or in the morning as you wake up, the pain is terrible. That's also a red flag and you need to get that checked out. The next red flag is if it comes with a sensory deficit. If you have a if you have a deficit in the feeling of your legs or your your buttocks or your back, you need to make sure that you get that checked out and see if that sensory deficit, that loss and feeling is a result of the back pain.

The last red flag that I want to talk about is bowel or bladder dysfunction. If you have a problem with your bowel movements or urinating and back pain, they might be connected and you need to go get that checked out. This concludes the video on our red flags. Let's run down the list very quickly just to remind ourselves what the red flags are. If the back pain is a result of a traumatic event. If the back pain happens in a younger individual under the age of 20, if you have a history of cancer or a malignancy, if the pain is worse at night and wakes you up from your sleep, if you have bladder or bowel dysfunction, or if there's a sensory deficit, all of these are the red flags.

And if they're associated with back pain, it means You need to go check that out and investigated further with your doctor. The vast majority of people who suffer from back pain, don't have any of those red flags. We're going to continue now and talk about different types of back pain that you might be suffering from.
