Now I only work with evidence based medicine. What does that mean? That if something's been proven to work, I will recommend it. And if it hasn't been proven to work, I will not recommend it. I want to talk about which type of therapies and treatments for chronic back pain have been proven to help and which have not. Let's start with three main things that you can do for chronic back pain.
Number one, physical therapy, exercise therapy, doing the right exercises has been proven to help improve chronic back pain. Number two massage therapy, massages by trained professionals who know how to deal specifically with back pain. This has been something proven to help chronic back pain. Lastly, yoga, doing yoga with an instructor who knows how to give you proper exercises, directed to help chronic back pain. This has been something another treatment that has been proven to help improve chronic back pain. Now many people have asked me about acupuncture.
Acupuncture has evidence that is not very clear cut. I cannot recommend that you do acupuncture as something that has been very clearly proven to help relieve chronic back pain. It does help some people, and it has a very strong placebo effect, meaning that people who believe that it helps them. At the end of the day, it's a subjective measure and people's pain are partially relieved. That being said, it's not very clear that the evidence shows that acupuncture helps decide individually for yourself based on all of the things and characteristics and characteristics that you want to take into account, including financial time, and the risks of course involved you can decide if it's something that's good for you. There are three therapies that have been proved proven not to work and I want to mention them here to make sure that you stay away from them.
Laser 30 lumbar supports, going to a chiropractor, these are all things that have been proven not to help chronic back pain. I don't know if it makes it worse. So if it's something that you feel helps you, I'm not going to say don't go ahead and do it but just understand that there's no evidence to support these treatments. Let's quickly review the type of treatments that have been proven to work and those who haven't been proven to work. Physical Therapy, yoga, and massage therapy are all treatments that have been proven to improve chronic back pain, laser therapy, traction, chiropractic manipulation. These are all things that have been proven not to help chronic back pain.
