So we need to validate our reason why. So we've got a reason why we're doing something. But is it valid? Why is that motivation? Let's examine a few ideas. What is a motivation?

Are we moving away from something? Are we moving towards something? Why do we want to change? If we're moving away from something that is usually we're moving away from something we don't like, in the business or something is happening in the business. Something has affected the business that we don't like. That is the negative motivation and it's valid in many cases, but let's look at what we're moving towards.

That is usually a positive. It's a goal orientated motivation. That can be positive. We want to increase we want to change we want to improve. Is this a knee jerk reaction? Did something happen?

That changed the way we feel or think about our business? Was that maybe an accident? Or work? Did we lose a major client? Is this something we just think we're gonna try and do now really quickly? Or is this something was part of a long term plan?

Is it part of a long term growth strategy? These are some of the things we have to be thinking, as we consider. Reason why and as we validate, reason why. So to validate our reason why one of the things we can do is ask ourselves some self coaching questions. So as an exercise, what I recommend, is go to the resource section of this course and download the self coaching questions. Ask yourself each question and write down your answers.

Remember, if you're struggling to get clarity, you really need to think about the project's viability. So let's go and have a look at the self coaching questions. And let's just run through them and see what sort of things they're going to bring up what they're going to help us to think about what they're going to help us to process in our own mind. So here's our reason why coaching questions, here's some of the questions we're going to ask, what is the reason I'm choosing to work on this? Which of the seven wastes Am I targeting? So if you remember when we went through the course we went through Tim woods, which of those seven ways my targeting what other reasons might there be to work on this?

How might this change or add value to the product or service? Which current business goals and objectives does this project support, relate to How will this project support your high level business objectives? And what is the current cost to the business? in pounds or dollars of doing the things the way you are doing them right now? Whatever costs added to the business, is there a labor cost? What is the opportunity?

How much could you save by changing it? What is the payback? What is the difference between the current costs and opportunity? So, when we do our reason why, the reason why we want to change a process? These are some really good questions as ever questions you can ask but these are really good questions that Stephens supplied to help us start really thinking about why are we doing this, so take the time to think of a project you would like to do a process you would like to change in Your business and go through and ask yourself these questions about that project and see how it helps you to clarify your own thoughts. So now we validated our reason why what we need to do is we're going to need to create a company mission statement.

I want to create a concise but clear mission statement that states your goal and the business level objectives it is linked to. Now you could create a SMART goal here. And that would help you to really define it. And then you want to share that company mission statement on your company intranet specific project page. Let's have a look an example of that on a company intranet, and see what it looks like. Here we have an intranet for SME heroes.

This intranet is built using Google Sites, and the Google software, and it's a completely free intranet, we have a course showing you exactly how to build an intranet in a project management dashboard like this. So please make sure you go to the last lecture in this course, because there'll be a special offer on our other courses, where you'll be able to get access to our intranet project management dashboard course. But what we want to do is let's go through two business projects. So these are the projects we've got. This is a process improvement project we're running. And here you can see we have our mission statement.

But this is the mission statement we were talking about. So let's just open up and have a look at it. So here is our mission statement. This is based on a SMART goal. So it's very specific. Our mission is By the 19th of January 2018, we've grown our market share by 25% our businesses in a strong position in the market, but we need to grow the market share if we're to improve our profits in line with our business growth rate targets.

To do this, we will need to create a more efficient marketing strategy that reaches and targets more potential clients. Our aim is to focus on our social media, and grow all social media marketing metrics, until we have grown our newsletter list by 500% to be achieved by the target date. So as you can see here, we have a mission statement, which is stored on our intranet. And that means anybody who's involved in the project can see the mission statement. Now we'll keep coming back and referring to this page because we're going to talk about the other things are on this page as we go through this example section on how to set up a process improvement project.
