Hello, this is Rob here from Rob cupping calm, and I'm showing you how to extend the edges of this photo in Photoshop. And now we'll be making selections from the photo to do just that. The tool we want to use now is the last suitable and an important number at the top here is the feather before I explained to you what the feather does, I'm going to show you what the Le su does with a feather of zero. Let's make a selection with our zoo. And that's what LSU does, it makes a selection and I'm going to go round there. Round and round there, and there's a selection so I've selected a bit of the image with the zoo.

Now bearing in mind I add this layer selected I'm going to copy Command or Ctrl C Paste. And as you can see there that has added another layer. I'm going to go back to the move tool now and I'm going to move this layer around so you can see what it's done. I've used the list soon to create a selection on the image, I have then copied that selection and pasted it on the photo. But I'm going to go back to the Layers palette now and turn off the background layer. So you can have a look at the selection more closely.

And what I want you to notice is that the edge of the suit is exactly as sharp as the edge of the image. So I'm going to get rid of that now throw it in the bin, and go back to my original. And now I'm gonna click on that so and now I'm going to increase the feather to 20 pixels, and I'm going to make a similar selection. And similarly I'm going to copy and paste back to the lab. I'm going to turn off the background. I'm going to make white background Actually, I'm going to click on that icon down the bottom of the layer palette, which is create a new layer.

And I'm going to edit fill it with white. Now I want you to look at the edges of the selection and see how different it looks with the feather of 20 pixels. So what does the feather do to the zoo selection, it blurs the edge of the selection, that's what the feather does. It adds a Gaussian blur to the edge of the zoo. And this is very important doing what we're doing here. I'm going to drag that white layer down because that can stop us going blind and so we don't have to look at the grid all the time.

I'm gonna be in that layer again, that selection, I'm gonna make our image reappear. And now is the fun bit because I am going to do What I said I'm going to do, and I'm just going to extend the image bear in mind, I have the image selected in the Layers palette, and I'm going to go to my son. So I've got the feather of 20. I'm going to select this bit of the image, I have held down option there, so I can just click once and then click again, and then click again in order to do the list. So I'll just click again and lose that selection and show you without holding down option I have to just drag the list soon on, haven't got a very, I haven't got a steady hand and I've missed a bit at the top there. So I'm gonna get rid of that selection again.

I'm going to click again and holding down the option key much easier. Just click and there's my selection. I'm going to copy and paste and there is already looking better but obviously you can see that the information is doubling up on it. bit there along that part of the image. So I'm going to go back onto the move tool. And remember Command T is free transform, and I'm going to drag that up to the top, drag that down a bit.

So we don't have any repeated information. And there it is, it's not looking very good. It's looking a bit obvious. And as you can see, the grain of the wood is kind of moving a little bit upwards there. So we want to put some perspective in to make this would look like it's real. And the way we do that is go back to free transform, have to move it down so we get the corner there.

I'm going to hold down Command, shift and option and that allows me to add perspective. So the grain of the woods follows the pattern of the rest of the image. And now I'm going to pray. And that part of the image is looking much better, it's looking much more real. So we're going to live with that for the moment back to the left palette, there's our new layer, that's the top That's double click on that and call it top so we don't get lost. Now I'm going to click back onto our image.

And I'm going to do same thing at the bottom. Let's do two feathers 20 I'm holding down option. Let's get the bottom bit underneath the apple. I'm going to copy that and paste again, Free Transform Command or Ctrl T. And let's see what it looks like. If we just drag it down. It actually doesn't look too bad because this perspective doesn't matter so much.

I think actually just just to be sure I'm gonna hold down command control option and drag at the edge there and do the opposite thing fanning out a little bit at the bottom and then the gray If the word follows better, and I give a much more realistic extension to the bottom of that image, so we're not finished yet we've got the sides to do and the tops not looking great, but I'm fairly happy with my progress so far. And we'll extend the rest of the image in the next video. I hope you're enjoying it so far. My name is Rob from Rob carbon calm. I'll see you in the next video.
