It's day four already doesn't time fly when you're having fun. And today's framework is called the prep framework. P r e. p. Prep is an acronym. And it stands for point, reason. Example. Point.
Let me give you an example of that. Let's say I had been asked the question, Which color do you prefer? red or green? Perhaps I've answered green. So first of all, I make the point which is piripi point, and I say well, my preferred color of those two is green. Next comes on reason.
The reason I love green is because I love nature. And the color green reminds me of the grass and the trees. Pretty boring answer but it works. So P r e, I could say in particular, I love the dark green of for trees. That is my favorite shade of green. And then at the end, come back to the point again, I love green.
And whenever I look at it, I imagine myself in my local forest or Park, relaxing and having a great time. That's the prep framework in action. Today's mindset, or delivery tip is this. Actually, there's three of them. The first one is don't take yourself too seriously. In particular, if you're a Toastmaster during table topics, the funnier the better humor is always appreciated.
If you're in a social situation like a party, again, no need to be too serious. You don't have to give this definitely correct It's fine to be light hearted. And also the more lighthearted we are about impromptu speaking, the more relaxed we're going to be, and the better an answer we're going to give. The second tip is to get off the fence and take a stand. there quite often when people start out with impromptu speeches answering questions, they won't commit one way or the other. That's like me answering the question about red and green that came in the last video.
Do you prefer red or green? I could say well, red is a gorgeous color. I've got several red dresses, and I really enjoy wearing red but but green green is a lovely color too, because it reminds me of nature. It's a bit wishy washy because I've acknowledged both of those colors as being ones I like I haven't committed in any particular direction. So don't be afraid to take a stand. Get up, get off the fence.
State your ideas, because it's always more interesting to listen to somebody who has a strong opinion on something, and someone who's sitting on the fence right in the middle. Now, we've already touched on this before, but don't worry about being perfect. It's very difficult to answer in an impromptu speech question and get it perfectly right. Now, obviously, if you're in a work situation, and you're being asked some technical information where there is a perfectly correct answer, and there's a wrong answer to, then hopefully, you're going to be able to access the correct answer. But in other situations, life situations, parties, chatting to strangers. Maybe there isn't a perfect answer.
You just want to have the best answer that you can in that moment. So don't worry about being perfect. The prep framework Very popular. And I've written a blog post on it. There's a link in one of the lectures. So you can actually go and take a look at that blog post, but it's definitely one that will serve you many a time.
Today's example question is this. What's the most important lesson life has given you? If I'm going to use the prep framework, again, point, reason, example point. I want to start with my point, my direct answer. So what's the most important lesson that I've learned in life? I've learned to trust my gut.
That's my point. The reason is because every time I've gone with my intuition, it's been the right step to take and whenever I go with logic or with other people's advice well It doesn't serve me so well. An example is when I was deciding what color sofa to buy. My best friend said get green. My instinct was telling me to buy beige, because it goes with everything. I ended up buying a bright green.
And well, after six months, I hated it. And unfortunately, it was too late to take back to the shops, and so I had to stick with it. Therefore, From then on, I've always gone with my gut. That's the most important lesson life has ever taught me. So that's an example question. And now it's your turn to answer a question.
And your question is bass. Why should the world listen to you? Now today, you have two and a half minutes To answer that How did you get on with that question? Maybe you found it. It was a bit of a sticky one or perhaps you enjoyed it and you gave a humorous answer. Don't forget, there are two more questions that you can answer right now to get some more practice.
So go to the next lecture and they're waiting there for you.
