Leadership in the local church is a very extensive subject that cannot be easily summarized. “Leadership” comes from the word “leader.” A “Leader” is someone who is followed by others, although the follower could also be a leader. We had a lot of leaders in our lives that we have followed with all our hearts, but there are others that have guided us with a leadership that we did not like at all, and even some have hurt us.
Some of these leaders have been pleasant due to their attitudes towards us: they have been honest, sociable, impartial, and confident; in other words, they have shown an attitude just like Jesus. There have been other leaders that have proven the opposite behavior: they have been dishonest, apathetic, partial, and insecure; in other words, attitudes totally different from Jesus’ actions. It is important that the leadership in the local church reflects the life and work of Jesus, so the Holy Spirit can guide the people effectively towards the spiritual growth of the congregation.
