Every culture is shaped by historical events. Many of the keys to understanding the values practiced in the US will be found in an overview of its history. When I was first starting, Shanta consulting, a graphic designer friend designed a business card for me. Since the focus of my business was on India and the US, he put a map of India and one of the US I proudly showed my car to my friend Indra Jeet, who is from Oh, Jane, and I'm so glad I did. He looked at the card and told me that there's a problem here. I'm so thankful that energy was open enough to tell me about the problem.
The card had a basic image of India, but was missing two very significant regions. Part of cashmere was missing in all of the Northeast. The US Matt did not include Alaska or Hawaii. I was thinking basic shapes. And I hadn't intended to make a political statement. But it was a huge blunder, and would have sabotage my business if I began handing out these cards.
What are the cultural shaping events that have impacted the US? Whenever I'm focusing my consulting on a specific country, I do a quick survey of their history, looking for events that have shaped the history of that country of focus. And I found it to be extremely helpful in understanding Germany, France, Korea, Japan. I'm going to give you a taste of the history of the United States. I encourage you to dig deeper, asking the question, what has shaped the American value system
