Hey, welcome back to build winning courses. This is step seven assessing for mastery, and it is less than five paper or online. In other words, how do you test people? Do you give them paper tests? Or do you test them online? for what reasons?
First of all, no matter which way you do it, it is hard sometimes to get students to complete assessments. So in either case, for the paper or online, you want to think about how are you going to give them some incentive to actually complete the test? Now, there's a lot of benefits in online assessments. One is, they're actually easy to make in the applications you use, like captivate or storyline, or maybe something like Thanksgiving, or was IQ built in platforms again, built in quiz makers, they're easy to make in those particular platforms. So they have another advantage that to me is really critical and that is they self score and they self tabulate. So I get a report of who responded to which question how So I can see if there are patterns I need to look at like, Did everybody get the same question wrong?
And if they get the same Wrong answer, that means it's probably the question that needs to be adjusted. So on next at significantly easier. On the other hand, if you have people in a physical class and you give them a paper assessment, you can actually sort of stand in front of the door before they give it up and fill the thing out along with the evaluation. That's not very nice. And then you have to score it by hand which takes time and effort. So it's it's really I prefer online, but getting people to complete them is even tougher.
And for that, I often use incentives, like $5 gift cards, or a free download of something that might be fun or anything else that allows them an extension to a subscription that says to them, we really want these to come back and even make it a point not to send certificates until assessments are completed. So whether you deliver an assessment in a paper format, and an instructor led training or online And in virtual training, your thought should be essentially the same. How will it be scored? How will I get the data I need? And how will I help people be sure to complete the assessment?
