Let's start off by talking about the Upside of Anger. It's a curious idea, isn't it? That there's some kind of upside, particularly since you've come and bought this course in order to get rid of it. But if you think about it, anger has been serving a purpose in your life. It's doing something for you or its intention is to do something for you. That would be really useful if you could figure out what it was that was doing, what its purpose was.
And I'm going to give you a couple of the normal ordinary reasons why people fall into this habit of anger, the behavioral reactivity of anger. Anger is a great defense mechanism. You know how they say this form of defensive attack, anger that anger helps us to manipulate other people. If we're an angry person, we find that other people are much more touchy around us. So when we say jump, they say, haha it sounds amazing. purpose in that regard, but it also serves other purposes, it may help us to feel like we're doing something about a situation.
Even if they're doing is just ranting and raving. It may help us to feel like less of a victim in our mind if we come back with force and aggression. So I'd like you to start to think a little bit about what the purpose of anger is for you in your life. And pay attention to this because we're going to make use of this information that you've been thinking about later on in the course as an exercise.
