Welcome to the final episode in this weight loss course, naked dieting. I'm going to talk about chew it today as a program, I'll give you the website at the end, you can check out, we made it for kids. It's a lot of fun, but it really is applicable to everyone. So this is a fast moving fun, quick, little videos. So I'm excited for you to join me in it. And so let's dive right in.
Thanks again for taking a few minutes to change the health of our nation, our kids and ourselves. The following is a story about what's in the food we eat and drink and how it has changed us and our world. What does it change it to it's not a strange new planet. It's not an alien landscape. It's not even a jungle we'd recognize. It's our own land.
But as we come into the United States of obesity, we are now in a country weighed down by a population characterized by unprecedented Obesity, especially among the young, somehow or another, we went from here to here. It's not just lack of movement, nor is it even calories from overeating. Liquid calories are a major part of the problem. sweetened beverages are consumed at the rate of 35 gallons per year per person. Globally, 1 billion soda drinks are swallowed each day, including energy drinks, and man that is a lot of calories. But obesity is a lot more than calories.
It's a result of what substance has been let in to make those liquid calories and how our body responds to them. Let's review some human historical facts going back a few thousand years and see what our great great, great grandparents drank. Well, they drank water and then they had some water and they probably even had more water. Now occasionally they drink milk but milk contains proteins, carbs, fats, vitamins, and is some Consider a food. Water is necessary for life. It contains no calories, high calorie sugar filled beverages or rather new on our human timeline.
We never developed the ability to utilize these liquid calories. Liquid calories are absorbed too quickly for hormonal, recognized recognization we can't see him. Your hormones never have a chance to respond to the calories and tell your brain you've had enough. You could drink 10,000 calories a pop and really not feel that full, but you could not eat 10,000 calories, you would be too full. The intake of liquid calories primarily sweetened drinks does not reduce your intake of solid food. If you drink soda pop fruit juices, energy drinks or any other liquid with sugar in it.
You're going to get fat your body cannot regulate your caloric intake as it was designed to do. Some studies showing increase in calories consumed in solid foods. If you also have sweetened beverages in your diet, but wait, it gets worse. What are these sweetened drinks sweetened with high fructose corn syrup? But is that bad? Well not if you're the food industry, it's cheap.
It can sit on the shelf forever. It is using places sugar because it costs less. Us producers sought cheaper sources when a system is sugar tariffs and sugar quotas imposed in 1977 significantly increase the cost of imported sugar. When fat was outlawed in the 70s, high fructose corn syrup was used in its place for taste and increase food industry profits by by four times. Now Is that bad? Not to the food injury.
But for you and your kids. Yes. Let me ask you a question. Would you give your five year old eight ounces of vodka a few times a day every day? I'm certain the answer No, alcohol is a carbohydrate just like fruit coas. Both are processed in the liver via similar mechanisms.
Both cause liver damage over time. That's right, high fructose corn syrup and all the sweetened beverages we drink cause liver disease. Now what kind of liver disease does it cause something called non alcoholic fatty liver disease or naff hold. This means that over time, a child who is a regular consumer of high fructose corn syrup or an adult will start to develop liver disease similar to that developed in the liver of an alcoholic, severe liver disease is not obvious at first, especially in children. But it's happening 38% of children who are too little or a lot overweight under the age of 13, who died from other causes and had autopsies and a study also had liver disease. non alcoholic fatty liver disease is a precursor to A number of our worrisome diseases and conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, obesity and addiction.
Hypertension is another one. So what should we do about this? Simply put, it is happening if a child or you are drinking a lot of fruit juices, pop, eats a lot of candy or products with high fructose corn syrup. This is not questioned. It is a fact. So what should you do?
Well, can you stop this villain? We could start a huge lawsuit against the big beverage industries where they would crush us like grapes and the only winners would be the lawyers. Liver Disease is reversible if it has not gone too far. The liver heals itself very quickly if it stops getting exposed to the highest toxins high fructose corn syrup. Learn to do things in moderation. For the sweetened drinks lovers out there too little cosmetic changes.
Problems. Too much can cause health problems, weight gain, and most certainly make it difficult to lose weight. Doing things in moderation is the answer. Drink pop in moderation, fruit juice in moderation, and even candy in moderation. I have found over the years in medicine, one or two sugary drinks a week provides a good balance. And we can make our kids aware of the dangers of sugary drinks and ourselves by using simple simple analogies, stickers and posters.
That's the idea behind chewy here and chew it. Tune is a campaign to help children and parents realize that there are some unknown dangers in our food, particularly what we drink. If you were born in the 60s or 70s, you likely remember the poison control stickers or parents would put on all the bleach bottles and cleaners and everything under the kitchen sink. To this day, I could see one of those stickers on a bottle water and I probably avoid drinking it. We can do the same thing with our choo choo stickers. If we placed them on beverages and other products that contain high fructose corn syrup, pop bottles, post them in a gym on a bulletin board with permission of course, given to your kids teachers to place around the classroom in the lunchroom.
Please do not tempting to stick them on vending machines or grocery stores or anywhere with someone get upset. We don't want to be vandals, just Crusaders. I would personally much rather chew my calories than drink them. And I think most of us would once we understand the implications, all of us parents, teachers, uncles, aunts, friends need to discouraged liquid calorie intake. Of course, that's a great idea for us as well. But we really need to direct kids to chew their food, not drink it.
That is part of the chewing campaign.
