For our next section, employments army, professional experience, work experience, whatever you want to call, it doesn't really matter as long as it's relevant. So work experience, employment summary, professional experience, or types of words are perfectly fine. Let's go through it, shall we? So if anything, this is the most important section. So I'm just going to show you on screen are you to just listen to lectures. So I assume that you know the theory and now we're going to go through the detail.
I'd like to put in the, the name of the company first. It's not necessary. Sometimes people put the position both I think equally fine. I want to make sure that we are doing it once again in reverse chronological order. So in this case, we have the most recent job that this particular person's had, then the next most recent and then The most recent after that, and then the last. So that's called reverse chronological order.
And the logic behind that is because you want to be able to show the employee straight away exactly what you're doing right now. And so rather than having to scroll through the entire resume to find out, you know what your recent job is, it's straight up there for the particular HR manager, the manager recruiter to have a look and say, Yeah, great. So obviously, you probably want to put in the month, you don't have to put in a date, the month and the year. And obviously, if you present or whenever you quit that last job, want to put in the location. So sometimes if you've worked in multiple locations, for instance, internationally, interstate or those types of things, it shows that the company has moved you or you're willing to move or those types of things that employ it looks for I like to put it into this particular case.
This particular person Michael Smith has worked in London. Sorry, now in California. And so we, as we said in that lecture, we have a brief summary of what exactly is the company so some people might not know what a company let's just say you work for. Let's change the name to grandfather. Some people may have never heard of grass on so what is Grant Thornton? easiest way to do this is you can jump into Google typing grants.
Wharton is usually a summary guys check this out. Yep, I'll literally copy and paste that. And I will just delete that because we've also already got on say this That's it. And so people will know instantly it's a sixth largest accounting network or company in the world by combined income, and they specialize in these three as audit tax Business Advisory. Okay? Pretty simple, isn't it?
So let's just say you work for a retailer instead. Let's just Google, a famous retailer. Let's go Procter and Gamble. Very, very famous. Prop. There you go.
Again, multinational consumer goods Corporation, I wouldn't say where its headquarters specializing in fast moving consumer goods, for instance, okay. Pretty straightforward. You put it here. And that way the recruiter knows what company you work for. This is probably more relevant for companies that aren't as famous as like Coca Cola, HSBC, those types of things. And it just helps with the person understanding what your job was and what you did.
So first and foremost, you've got responsibilities, I like to keep to three and four. Sometimes it's bigger than necessary. If you've got more experience, like you've led a team or kind of stuff, it might be longer, but keep it succinct. We can even underline this can play around with the formatting just as long as it's legible. And anyone can read it and it just looks good visually, and it's consistent. Okay, so in this case, I've consistently underlined this and italicized this.
And also, bullet points match. Obviously, he here. Obviously, font is all the same size. So you check up here, all the same size, it's 11. Double confirm it's 11. So that's, you know, the presentation side of things.
So, you'll find this well, these responsibilities are pretty straightforward. You're responsible for financial analysis and credit reports of the team at sector and I've defined team at sector up here. If you're in the industry, you probably already know what that means. And so I'm just gonna highlight a few good keywords to use financial analyst credit reports. Excellent. Clients is a good word to use as well.
Maintain. Doesn't make sense okay. maintain my major clients financial. I'd say finance teams and public This is why it's a good thing to actually go through your resume more than once. So, I'm calling these keywords because it's important that these words are in your resume, so that once it goes through the software, but it picks up these words. So these key words key for finance and resumes in general, I might add other stuff like lead a team, lead a project or project or you might add something like organize cool, coordinated, executed certain certain things, projects, procedures, etc.
So these words such as lead, organize, coordinate, execute, all come up in the box instead These are types of words that you want to use. And we're going to go into more detail later. exactly the type of things. Let's just say you are really lazy. And you know you shrug and think of ideas of what your job did. Let's just say you're a junior accountant, somewhere like an assistant can or bookkeeper.
Easiest way to do this is this book keeper. Let's try that one. roles, responsibilities. Obviously, I'm not condoning cutting and pasting this, but what you can do is get ideas from this cut, you know, copy and paste and then edit. So obviously, you want to do copy. But you do want to be able to say in your own words, exactly what you did.
That is going to come up on those key filters online as well in that software, but Okay, so let's just say this person that you were a bookkeeper at Grant Thornton. Let's just change that. Yep, that's already good. Obviously, you would delete all this because you've got the new roles and responsibilities. Put in your. So what you can do to manage that is click on this button here, guys, this format patent button, and then boom, you've got your matching bullet points.
All right. Now you can just copy and paste this. Let's say you want to match formatting. Sorry, that was a bit fast. I'll show you guys how to do it. This is word I think 2016.
So you have this different levels of pasting. You want to paste text only that matches so this will match the text on your screen. Okay, so I'll paste that. Now we'll have a look. All right. what's what's some good words?
There's some good words. we'll highlight those financial transactions accounts. It's a good word, bookkeeping might come up as well develops. So I'd say instead of developed, I'd say developed, developed system to account financials by establishing a chart of accounts to find Yep, this is at the operational end. That actually might even be an achievement. We can delete these two and I'll go through exactly how we can make that look really good later.
Yep, that's fine. You might be able to do that but subsidiary accounts by reconcile entries Yes. As bookkeeping might maintain Jen ledger by transferring substrate counts summaries. Yes. finest Ladybug Brian. Yep.
And It's a safe place. Online added together so that there's less bullet points. Yep. What need that's pretty straightforward. I like to keep to three for maximum five guys. So you'll see here I'll probably make it four let's make it five actually.
Yep, that's pretty obvious what you do anything that's super obvious. I'd like to get out purely because you know real estate and dot points is seen here in your resume. So you want to make it succinct and as sharp as possible, as good as possible. So let's just make sure that we getting rid of things that are pretty basic and standard. Yep, balance as well as thoughts substrate counts for Yep, that's fine. Make an Australian and us obviously can change that.
Summarizing. Yep. And that's fine. I'll say ensuring and you can edit that accordingly. So I'll highlight the key words that a good maintains. on my site you you'd say managed probably doing better.
Yep, managed. Some hauling the words that are probably good to use, especially finance. Financial Reports would definitely be a good one. Analyzing obviously a great one. Analyzing again, compliance will be helpful as well, especially. So those of us with responsibility if you're super lazy Google it.
And it's just helpful to have a base from Google as well. So let's just say you are a retail assistant. Pretty straightforward, guys. Go to Google. Go. We tell shop assistant, Judy's resume will give you a whole list.
Copy, Paste, and then make sure you edit. So you're not fully copying. Obviously, we don't want to plagiarize but just make sure that you're putting in your own words, I haven't fully changed all this, like I've kept this, you edited a few. Obviously, if I was writing my own resume, I'd make sure that I made up a few new lines started differently, you know, delete the stuff that wasn't relevant, all that type of stuff, pretty straightforward, right? Copy, Paste directly into yours, add some keywords to So for instance, if you are applying for a finance role, you want to make sure there's financial analysis, data analysis, financial statements, those types of words that are relevant to the industry, we go into more detail later. And so those roles and responsibilities keep it to three to five Max, depending how long and how big your role was a smaller role the list, I guess you put in there the bigger role obviously, the more you put in So next part is discuss achievements.
So we went into a little bit of detail before what achievements look like. Now this is just super, super important. A lot of resumes, like I said, don't have achievement section within the resume. And usually they just have a list of responsibilities. But what stands out to managers and hiring recruiters HR, whoever it may be, is a list of achievements. And so most resumes actually don't have this.
So a lot of resumes that I look at as a career coach don't have this. And there'll be the rare few that do and it just looks so good when you can articulate some of the achievements so I copied and pasted this directly from the, from the internet, as you saw, obviously, we'll change it up if necessary. And so this particular person developed a system account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts, defining bookkeeping provision policies. And so this is a great achievement for that particular company. So how we can make him look better is that we could say how much time it saves. So you could say that this particular achievement saved let's say 40% efficiency just saved.
Improved efficiency of keeping by 40%. company wide. Looks great. And what I'll do is, you don't need to do full stops actually. Obviously, improved efficiency by 40 cent companies are just bought that looks great. And this particular person might have probably not as a bookkeeper, but let's just say you did.
I supervise staff can say survive for junior staff or senior finance one junior staff receiving promotion after two years. That's perfect. So let's say in this case, let's just say you won You're really good employee you want Employee of the Year 2016 Okay. Sorry two strong work ethic orientate and outline the reasons why you did won that award. So some other achievements that you can talk about is cost did you save the money? The business any money?
Service? Did you improve customer service somehow quality? Did you improve the quality for instance case they improve the quality of bookkeeping due to establishing a chart of accounts. And that increased the efficiency by 40%. That's a perfect one administration did you improve or enhance operations. Productivity like this cases improve the efficiency and productivity Did you lead a team for instance?
Did you do more sales and someone did you win employee any awards is a really good one too. So let's just say you work previously worked at a finance company and you won deal of the year you want to put that into your resume as well this all just look really great for the employer, as well as just looks great for you. So that's a brief rundown of work history guys. One more thing to add is these things like managed insuring, you might some of the words that they use organized action verbs so that they're kind of verbs that are used and and and filtered by the by the bytes and make sure that we are using those within this resume to hope that all this makes sense, guys, feel free to send me a text. Sorry, message. If you have any questions.
Hope I was clear. We'll see you in the next lecture.
