In this video, we're going to take a look at the basic controls for the GH five. There's a lot of buttons and there's a lot of menus to go through that it can be very confusing, but let's just go through some of the basics here. So we have the viewfinder, this is the eye sensor, the sensor will detect when you've got your eye against there. So if you're looking at a display, let's open up the screen. If I'm in movie creative mode, and I put my eye over there, it's going to take this display and then put it inside very useful if you're doing video in bright conditions. Alright, we'll talk about the touchscreen in a bit.
Let's just look at some of the basic buttons here. This is your preview button. And so this is a photo I took. While you're in preview mode you can use function f4 to delete You can select single multi or delete all. So to go back, you can just tap on there. So this is an actual preview, it looks like the real thing, but if you press function f5 There we go.
Function f5 will give us the live view. So if you don't see any view function f5 over here is the nipple. Just similar to a joystick, I find that I use it a lot because it's just natural to control within the menus. Over here we've got our different autofocus modes and then manual focus. You can do an auto focus lock using that button. function f2 will take us to a different menu with different options.
From autofocus facial the Section two different video modes. Alright and you can use the joystick to navigate within there. So let's exit function f3 will take us to different autofocus modes we can select over there. Let's back out and like I said function f4 will delete while you're in preview mode and display will change different looks if you got too much information on the screen you can remove that. Or if you want to take a quick lines of what your settings are, you can use display. My favorite area to kind of get a glance of the menu settings is just to use the main menu by pressing over there and you can use the wheel to scroll within the menu but I prefer to use the joystick.
Alright, let's take a look at the side of the camera. Okay, this is a side view of the camera. If you're just getting familiar with the lens and the camera, this is the lens hood that came with it and it just screws on here you'll find that it's tough to use the focus ring if you don't put the lens hood on so I recommend it you can also protect the lens with it. You can switch from auto to manual focus here. And then if you want stabilization in the lens, you can turn it on which I have on here is the headphone jack. This is the mic jack which I'll demo later.
And this is where you can plug in HDMI and USB. Okay, so let's take a look at the other side. Okay, we're looking at the right side of the camera. So there's this little triangle you can use to open the slot. And this reveals the two different slot steel slots that you can put two memory cards in. And you can configure if one slot or card is full, it will write to the other.
So that's a really nice feature. Just look at the lines to figure out which one's slot one, which one is slot two, so the one on the left is slot one. Okay, this is where you mount the strap. This is for the remote. And you can adjust this over here to make sure that what you see in the viewfinder is in focus. And this is to open up the hot shoe if you want to put something on top, like a flash or microphone.
And now let's take a look at the top of the camera. Okay, we're looking at the top of the camera here. So we have the record button. This is pretty important. We have our function one button. This is what we use to set our ISO.
After you press ISO, you can use the wheel at the back to adjust your ISO and then after you set it press ISO again. This back wheel when ISOs not set is used to change the shutter speed and the wheel the top is used to adjust the aperture. Wb is used to adjust the white balance and you can use the back wheel to change the different white balance setting that you want. function f1 can be set and this wheel over here is very important. It's a different modes that you have from manual to creative mode. Then custom modes that you can set.
Ay ay ay ay ay ay is the intelligent auto mode. And then we've got Aperture Priority shutter priority. And this wheel is to set different photo modes. This is regular photo mode, and then you've got a timer, and time lapse. We'll be looking at these a little bit more detail a bit later. But those are the basic controls of the GH five and we're going to take a look at the software menu now.
