In this video, as promised, I'm going to provide some commentary on some of the photos I've taken with the GH five. And I've imported them just into the Photos app on my MacBook. And we're going to turn on the info so you can see all the settings. So let's start off here. So this photoshoot was taken at the Vancouver library about 630 just as the sun was starting to set and these photos were just on auto white balance, I put it on auto mode. And you can see here it's a little bit underexposed, but this photo isn't too bad.
I have pretty good lighting. This one here, the big difference is the ISO is a lot higher. Different shutter speed and aperture was opened up a lot more so it's an overexposure on this one isn't bad, lower ISO and apertures bit higher f nine and this is again on auto knock bad bit underexposed. I find with the GH five sometimes you have to use slower shutter speeds to get the results you wanted. This one here actually turned out pretty good. I have a low ISO the aperture is wide open and so fast shutter speed but we had really good lighting here and that fast shutter speed help us capture the water.
Let's just go back here. I want to compare Yeah, so pretty much identical in the settings between those two water photos. How did this one get in here? This one I didn't have any external lighting to help me this was on auto just a selfie shot and not too happy with the lighting over here. Okay, this one I want to talk about because I started off in auto mode. So we can see it's a little underexpose ISO 200 apertures fully open and one over 250 this next one here, let's just check the time stamp.
Oh, they're all taken within the same minute. Okay, the second one Here I put it on aperture priority and I select the most open aperture, I could have 3.9 and it chose ISO 1600 and pretty fast shutter speed. So you can see that the camera's not making good decisions here. What I did is I switched it to manual. See the big difference here it's the ISO, the aperture is the same and the shutter speed between this photo and this photo, not too much different. major difference is the ISO.
I started to take more photos on manual since I already set it up for this coffee shop and I like the results over here. Here's another example I set this on auto, ISO 2000 open aperture and then I switched over to aperture priority and I made a better decision on the ISO it should have been a lot higher. But the major difference between this photo and this photo was the shutter speed to select a slower shutter speed to get the results. These are just some selfie photos here. So this one is obviously better than that. What's the major difference?
Well, the apertures fully open, higher ISO shutter speeds slightly different and so what I would recommend With the GH five is of course you've got the auto mode, but you need to have good lighting look for that icon, that blue icon which tells you that's that it's in an ideal situation to take a snap. But if you really want to take a great photo, I think you have to set it up to manual mode because the camera doesn't make good choices. Experiment with bumping up the ISO, opening up your aperture and playing around with different shutter speeds. In my experience, I found I got better results if I chose slower shutter speeds. Hope you enjoyed this coverage on my photos and hopefully it can take some great snaps with your gh five. And again, the lens I'm using doesn't have the most open aperture if you wanted to take really nice shots with depth of field would be interesting to try out a lens with an F 1.4.
I have a Canon EF f 1.4 50 mil, but you need an adapter. There are some adapters, like the meta bones adapter that you can use to use your Canon lenses on the GH five so that's something that you can look into. So I hope you found this video helpful.
