Hello, and welcome to the lecture on the critical faculty of the mind. So the critical faculty of the mind is a very important piece to understand when working in Hippotherapy, because what it is, it's an invisible protective barrier that leaves the lives somewhere between the conscious and the subconscious mind. And its job is to protect the perceptions that we hold inside of us. And those perceptions are, who we think we are as people, and how we think the world operates. Let me give you an example. So let's say I'm in a situation and someone projects a perception at me, either in thought, word or action that is not in alignment with what I hold inside.
So what will happen is that the protective barrier, the critical faculty of the mind, will judge that instantly. As an untruth. It doesn't resonate with what's going on inside of me. So rejected, and nothing will come of it. However, if someone projects a perception at me in thought, word or action that is in harmony with what I hold inside of myself, then the critical faculties of the mind will let down and allow that perception to enter to attach to the other perceptions that are in there like that, and allowing those perceptions to grow and become more of my reality. So let me give you a more concrete example.
Let's say I'm giving a lecture in a workshop. And some guy in the back there is thinking, Okay, this guy's an idiot, he doesn't know what he's talking about. So there's a perception that's been projected in my direction. So my critical faculties of the mind Hold up, and it will simply be rejected as an untruth because that's not the the view or the vision I have of myself. So let's say the workshop is over and someone comes up to me and goes, wow, that was great. You're really wonderful teacher, then my critical factor of the mind will let down allow that perception to enter.
Attach the other perceptions in there. So they'll help those grow and make itself part of my permanent life where I'm a wonderful teacher. So. So let me give you a different example. And so no one and one of the most critical things about the critical faculty in mind is that it's almost fully established by the time we're about four years old. So the first time I heard that, it made a lot of sense, you know, it just resonated with my past and my upbringing.
And the other thing I thought, when I heard that said, wow, you know, the human experience is really unfair, because, you know, all of us are at the mercy of our early childhood upbringing. So you know, we're at the whim of our families that were brought into, and that's just seems to be a condition of the human reality. Now, let me give you an example. This is a fictitious example. But let's say there's this little girl named Susie. And Susie is about two years old, and today is a major day in Susie's life.
Because she gets to drink milk out of a real glass, you know, glass made out of glass. You know, it's not what not her little plastic sucky glasses that she's been raised on. But now she's a big girl, she gets to drink out of a glass made out of glass. And so she's in the kitchen drinking her glass of milk, and her mother is at the stove, and her mother's cooking dinner. And her mother is the single parent of three children, of which Susie is the youngest. She's working in a job where she barely makes ends meet and so, Susie's, mom's stress meter is on absolute overload.
So lo and behold, what happens Susie drops the glass, milk and shattered glass go everywhere. And and Susie's mom at her wits end spins on Susie and says, dammit, you'll never amount to anything. Pink. So now because their subconscious or critical faculty has not established yet, that perception will go into her and live with inside of her and then The critical factor of the mind will stuck will protect that perception, where she now has the perception side of herself that she's not worth anything. Now, does that mean that Susie's gonna grow up to be worthless? Of course not.
However, if she gets that perception directed at her over and over again, either thought word or action as she's growing up, the critical faculties of the mind will let down and allow those perceptions to enter her until it grows large enough to where it finally starts to work itself out in her life. So how that may look as an adult is that she may go from one failed relationship to another she might not be able to hold down a job, or you know, the scenarios are, are endless. So what the beauty of hypnotherapy is, is that through a deeply relaxed state of mind or going into a trance or meditative state, is that the critical faculties of the mind will let down and when it is down like that, that is when we can release those perceptions from the past. So that's kind of it on the critical faculties of the mind and let's go on To our next lecture, so I'll see you there.
