In this lesson, we will learn about the three methods that you can use in order to draw this shape. You can find these hard in the documents for this course, this is an image. And the reason for that is that I wanted the notes to be always visible to do this exercise. So let's start by activating the pencil, press P on your keyboard. And let's start in an angle, which is always recommended because the first note is going to be sharp. So we click here.
And now the next note we're going to be tracing is phase one. So let's pull like so. Now this is the reason why I call these method user hunters. Remember, this is the leading handle. Now, the fact that this handle is pointing down is telling us that our next segment we'll be first going down, and then looking for us wherever we position are pencil and we clicked an X node. Let's just see what happens if I do nothing but click in here, you see we have this gap in our path is really off the shape.
Let's press command set to go back and Let's now move it by pressing option and command or an angle anchorman. And let's see two things. The first thing you're going to see is that this smooth node is going to turn into a sharp node. And now let's just position it somewhere here. You may say, okay, you Isabel, you have experience, you know where to place them all this is something that you will get with experience. And for sure, I don't always know where to place my handles.
I just have to go and we'll make the best of my guests. But sometimes I just don't do it right. So let's see what happens when I position my handle here and I click on the next one. Okay, so it's pretty good. It's not bad, but let's say I'm not too expensive. And I really don't know where to put it, and I put it somewhere here.
And I trace my next portion of the segment and this is what happened. Well, nothing is lost because if you press and hold command and move your handle, now you see you can manipulate it in order to position where you want this one more thing I want you to realize here, which will be of great help. Now take a look. See here. See the handle that turned into a purple dots? Well and look at the node.
Now it's transforming into a smooth node that will be happening when occurs not it's not to a shapes key point, meaning that now you have a super smooth curve just as you want it. It's a visual cue to help you while you're drawing. So now we proceed. We keep going. We click here we drop. And now again, the same idea move your hunger Remember that this segment here and this segment here are symmetrical.
So we just need to position the leading handle in the same position as the other one. So let's press option and command. Let's pull up. Let's position it, mirroring the one on the right. And let's click on the next node. And we have a perfect symmetrical segment.
Now for this one, we're going to click and pull. And again, same idea, this angle here and these under here, because this in this segment are symmetrical. We take a look here, and we say okay, it goes up until here, which would be somewhere around here. We create there we move with pricing option. Command, we push this unit somewhere there. And now we click and it's pretty good.
Now it's obvious that this should be a smooth node because this is our soft curve. What can we do? Well, exactly the same way before we press and hold command. And we're gonna be wanting to look for that key point. That will give us a smooth, soft curve in there. And that's basically what we want to be doing.
Somewhere like there, it's almost perfect. And we have this first method. Let's see the second one. Now, the second method is what I call get rid of those handles, and it's pretty easy to understand too. If we activate the pencil and we During the same point here, and we click, we start exactly where as we did before. Now instead of using the handles, what we're going to be doing is where we can either click on the node itself, or we can press option and click on the handle itself, just to get rid of that handle.
That will reset the pen tool, meaning that now there is not a commanding handle telling the pen to to go upwards or downwards. It's going to be always a straight line until I jog. We have the next portion of this segment, and again, get rid of the handle. Click over the next portion of the handle. Click again and so forth. Might be much easier for beginners to use this method.
But there is a little downside, which is, if we get rid of the blueprint here, you're gonna see these areas here, because they are sharp notes. Well, they are quite rough. But good news again, we have a wonderful tool in Affinity Designer, that will help us. So what we're going to be doing here now is soften these nodes using this tool here, the corner tool, you can also press C on your keyboard. Let's activate it and see how it works. It's wonderful.
So you go over the node, the shard node, and you drag inwards. Now I drag in what's here. And now take a look at it. Look at this beauty. So this is the corner tool, one of my favorite tools ever in Affinity Designer, and obviously you're only gonna be using it over Sharp notes, you will know that you use it whenever you see a circle with a square inside. So this is the square for the South node and around you're going to have this circle.
And it's always useful in inverse as you saw or upwards as your shape needs. For example, this one in words, it cannot be. So I'm gonna be pulling out words in order to make this portion a little bit. even softer. Yes, take a look at that wonderful heart. So let's see.
Now the third method, which is what I call life can be easy. And I know it's a method of many people because it allows them to start drawing and yet get so many good things through this super simple method. So activate your pencil, come here, click your first note, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seven. Now, we have This super angled shape, like a plot of heart. And now the only thing you have to do is press and hold command and modify your segments like this. Now you see was really fast.
And now again we have the same as before we have these sharp notes, we press C and we can really make this much softer. And the result is a super nice heart that well looks fantastic. So there you go, three methods to get the same drawing. And well, I hope now you feel like like your hands are burning, and want to draw the world. Let's see the next lesson.
