A couple of other useful little features here in the library can be found down on the toolbar just to the, to the right of the grid and loop icon, we've got the Compare view. And we've got survey view. And we've also got people view which I'll do a separate video on paypal for now just like to look at survey and compare. So I'll just do a little bit of a workplace simulation to show you how we would utilize these little features. What I'm going to do just going to pop back up to my, all my photos here, and let's just say I'm working away and a client gets in touch and they say they've they say we'd like some photos of Balinese dancers, we'd like three different Balinese dancers to consider for for a project that we've got in mind. So if you could send them through just a single dancer and H image.
So I think okay, so I'll just jump into my Bali photos there. And I think I've got a bunch of dancers here. There's one there and there's one there. And there's some more there and there. We've got a heap maybe not mad on that one or that one. I think this one that's this, these could be contenders.
We bought this lots isn't there, look at all these here and here and here. So I'm just going to grab all of these. And these, I'm just holding down the command key, which allows me to add to my add to my selection of images that I'm maybe probably not that one. So I'm others look, they go on and on and on. Maybe that one looks interesting as well. And there and my that'll do.
So with all those images selected, I'm just going to press the BK and what that's going to do is it's going to pop them all into my quick collection. So I press B. And you can see I've now got 21 images over here in my quick collection. So the quick collections a great way to just sort of, you know, grab a bunch of images, pull them aside so you can focus in on them. I'm going to go Shift Tab to get rid of my left and right top and bottom menus to just give me a little bit more room to move and with all the images selected I'm now going to go into survey view. So you can see down here, just the keyboard shortcut is in, or I go into survey.
And what happens when I'm in survey view is all the images fill the screen to the best of their abilities. And a little cross appears in the lower right hand corner as I mouse over each image. So what this enables me to do is basically go through a process of elimination to identify just the images that I want to keep. So I'll show you what I mean. I'm going to go so my client said they wanted single dancer in each image. So this one's no good because there's two, so I'm going to get rid of that one.
Now, I think a funny look on the face there. Maybe I don't like that one so much. And same deal there. I'm going to get rid of that one on that. Like do I have fingers cut right on the edge there. I'm going to get rid of that one.
This guy looks a bit tight, they're on the edge. not mad on that shots or that So you can see we go through this process of elimination. These are all quite similar kind of worried looking at face this or that like that. Maybe the kneeling down isn't so good. Maybe saying the fate isn't so good. So we're getting down to something more manageable, big funny eyes there maybe also to drop that one.
This looks like it's not entirely in focus. I'm going to drop that one. disguise. Maybe not like that so much with these head down there. I might drop that one thinking I really like this one that's a winner there for sure. Maybe there's too much spice above the head there.
I'll drop that one. Maybe he's funny look on his face. They're getting down to the pointy end. So I've got five different dances here and I still don't think if I was going to keep one of those two, it'd be this one. So I'm going to get rid of that one. Now, this definitely this one that's a winner.
Now do we want this one or this one? Or this one? Or this one? I think I'm gonna get rid of this guy. This one so now it's really out of these two g it's it's tricky. I think I like how they're all a matching set.
So I'm going to get rid of that one. So there I've got my shortlist if you like I've made my decision. Now, you'll notice these images have star ratings already, this has got four, this has got to this has got to now I want to mark these images so I can find them again easily. But if I elevate them to five stars, for example, then I'm going to muck up my existing star system. So this is where the color labels come in handy. I'm going to go photo and I'm going to go set color label and red or the keyboard shortcut is six as you can see, so now that's got a Red Label, I click on that one, press number six, that's got a Red Label.
And you can see the label appear down in the little right hand corner there. And I can even click there and add my label as well. So now I've identified the images. I'm going to press g for grid, we're back in grid, I'm going to go Shift Tab and all my menus come back and I'm just going to go File and Clear, my quick collection because it's work is done, I don't need it anymore. So always a good idea to keep your quick collection empty. So it's ready for future assignments as they arise.
So let's say now I'm working away on some other projects here or here or here, haven't heard back from that client for some time. And then out of the blue, they're like, Hey, where's those Balinese dancer photos? I need them right now. So of course you do they always need it yesterday, don't they? So I can just go to my Bali folder here, I can go up to my library filter and click attribute. And I won't worry about stars, I'll just click Red Label and bang.
There they are very quick and easy to find because we've identified them as such. So that's a nice use for the survey mode. It's also a nice use for the color labels. So you can mark things find them again easily without upsetting your existing star system. So I mentioned I was also going to look at the Compare view. So let me show you that Now, I'm going to just come out of that filtration mode, I'm going to get back to travel photos.
So let's say we get another situation where the client wants some street portraits, though, I've heard you've done a lot of street portraits in Barcelona, they say, and I'd like to, you know, look at some of those images for consideration. So I say, Okay, let's have a look. Let me go text. And let me type in here. Straight, which is a key word I've added to the straight portraits, and here they are. Most of most of them are in Barcelona, as it turns out, but I might, I'm just going to refine that a bit more, I'm going to go attribute and I'm going to say not read, but maybe three stars or more.
And that's given me 32 images to choose from. In fact, some of those is Seville down there, I can actually limit that to Barcelona comma space. B A, C is enough to make it just Barcelona now we've got 23. So I'm going to go Command A to select all. I'm going to press B to pop it into quick collection. Now.
I can Just remove that filter acts that aren't needed anymore. I've got the images nicely isolated here in my smart collection. So sorry, my quick collection, not my smart collection. So I if there's any obvious images here, I think aren't going to be contenders. I could drop them out, but I think they're all going to be pretty good contenders. So I'm going to go down to my survey view, sorry, compare view, compare view right here.
And I'm going to jump into compare view. I'm going to go Shift Tab again to get nice and fullscreen and what happens here is I get a select on the left and a candidate on the right. And I can use these little arrow keys here to cycle through all the various candidates. And if I come across a candidate that I think is better than my current select, I can make it the Select so let me find a good example. I think I'm gonna like that shot already that we've got at the start, but let's say let's say we think that's a great looking shot. Let's just pop you over there.
You can, sorry, let's it's this icon here, I click the wrong icon, you've got this little icon here, y becomes x. So by clicking that our current candidate becomes the Select. So now that's the image we're going to choose. So I'm going to keep going, I can keep comparing all my various images, all my various candidates, is this one better is this one better? Is this one better is this one better. And eventually, I may decide, I do like this one with the little dog as well.
So added, maybe I'm gonna make that my select now. So I think that'll be the one. I think that'll be the one I'll send. So I'm just going to hit down and again, I can mark this with red using the same system. So as I don't interrupt my star system, by just going you've got a red tag now and I think you're the one but I was the other one. I like that this guy's pretty crazy as well as any Why don't we go ahead and give that a read as well.
And maybe one more. So there's three to choose from. I think there was another one. There was to do with Skype or Skype, or I was another one with the dog that I like there as well, I like this one is actually let's go read there. So they're the three images I'd like to send on for that purpose. So I hit g for grid, and went back to grid Shift Tab to bring back all my panels.
And again, I can get Command A and press Delete to empty my quick collection. So my quick collection is nice and empty again, ready for its next assignment. And those images have been nicely marked with my red. So maybe, you know, red can be your symbol for IT projects that need to be sent off. So you can look at the whole travel photos. I can go attribute I can say any amount of stars doesn't matter.
Just show me all the red. And here's these images waiting to be sent off for their particular for their particular purpose. So that's looking at the Compare view, survive view and Compare view and how you can use and using I guess quick collection as well and using color labels as well. So how you can just very quickly combined rather compare images, isolate a group, find the ones you want send them off to the client very quickly and easily. So hopefully you find all that useful. And I think we're getting close to the the back end of the library.
Now we've gone through pretty much every little tab and sort of nook and cranny but I'm not. I'll probably do a video at the end of all of this just what I'll call the library loose ends just tying up any other little bits and pieces we haven't addressed and Yep, okay.
