Continuing our journey down the very administrative right hand panel of the library module. Next up is keywording. So keywording is another wonderful feature in Lightroom. That helps us organize our images and find things that we need to find very quickly by tagging them with various keywords. So you can see my currently selected image here is got the key words. Asia, geisha, Japan, and Kyoto geishas plural.
If I click on this image here we see Angkor Wat Asia Cambodia, cm re pan temple. And if I click on this one here, we see Europe flamenco Seville and Spain. This one here, Asia, China fisherman young shot. So all of these keywords are wonderful because they're specific to the image and they can be used to search on the image. So entering keywords is a relatively easy thing. Once again, I'm going to take you to our Prague stunt folder here which currently has no keywords and I'm going to go Command A to select all, because the first thing I want to do is apply what I call the global keywords.
They are the keywords that apply to this entire folder. So I go up to my keyword tab here and into keywords mode. And in the keyword field here, I click and it goes white with a blinking cursor. So I can go ahead and add the following keywords. So I'm going to add Prague, which is going to come up preemptively, which is nice because I've entered it before. So I just hit enter, comma, space, and I'm going to put in Europe.
And I'm going to put in Czech Republic. So these are my three global keywords for my Prague folder, because these keywords Prague, Europe and Czech Republic apply to all the images in that folder. So I just hit enter one more time. And you see the keywords are redistributed alphabetically, and we're good to go. So let's say now I've got a few more specific keywords that I'd like to apply to my Prague folder. That is images that are these keywords that are specific to certain images.
So statue is a good one I see I click on this one here we've got an image of a statue or it's actually, it's actually a street performer, but they're performing as a statue so that the keyword statue is appropriate. So I come over here and I click back in my keyword field, comma, space, and statue, and it's going to come up preemptively. Now there are many statues in progress, you can say certainly add on the child's bridge, not to mention all over the town. So I'm going to show you a wonderful way to apply these image specific keywords to a random bunch of images. So down here on the toolbar, we've got this little guy here. It's called the painter tool.
So the painter tool is a magnificent tool because what it can do is paint whatever you like with a single click. So it says What do you want to paint and there's a menu of things I can paint and top of the list is keywords. So I'm going to say I want to paint keywords and it looks like the last keyword I painted was dog But now I want statue and again it comes up preemptively because I've added up before so now my little painter is all ready to paint the keyword statues so I come out and wherever I see a statue I click and it's assigned the keyword statue there and there and there and there and there and there and let's work our way through Prague looking for statues the statues there and their and their and their sculpture statue, do we? Let's include that I think here and here.
Statue statue, statue statue, and yet Charles Bridge, amazing experience being there. And there we go. So I've keyword and all the statues are there. And if I accidentally if I go there's a statue and then I go, Oh, no, it's not. That's not a statue that's just a bridge. I hold down the Option key that's Alt on Windows and my spray can and I'll just zoom in so you can see it.
My spray can too. turns into an eraser, a little rubber eraser. And what that'll do when I click with the Alt key down, it says, removed the keyword statue. So we can apply the keywords and we can remove them again. So when I've completed painting my keywords, I just come down to my toolbar and I click done on the Done button there and the job is done. So if I were to go Command A to select all these images now, you'll see over here, it shows me all the keywords on all the images, Czech Republic, Europe, Prague, and you'll notice the keywords statue has a little Asterix next to it.
So as my little pop up menu there is revealing the Asterix means that this keyword is applied to some photos in this folder. But not all of them are some photos in the current selection but not all of them. So keywords are a wonderful way to manage your images and I'll be showing you shortly when we explore the library filter at all. So when we create quick, smart collections, have the keywords really start to become a powerful force.
