The first one is define your point. Now, this is something that I see a lot, you've got something to say you're really passionate about your topic, you know heaps about it. And so you want to pick as much information as you possibly can into your presentation. The problem is, we're only limited to, we're only human, we can only take in so much. And so if you've got more than one big solid point, you're actually running the risk of your audience leaving, either not remembering anything or being a little bit confused about what's most important. Okay, so how do we make sure we've got a solid point?

The first thing to do when you're preparing for a presentation is write down all of the points that you want to make do it in a brainstorm just off the top he he'd write a list of everything that you want to cover in your presentation. Now the hard bit, I want you to rank them from the most important to the least important point. And that can be quite difficult because we think they're all important, but you've got to do it right. So rank from the most important point that you want to make to the least important point. Now the one that gets to the top of the list is your solid point. It's the reason why you're speaking, it's your purpose.

Number two, three, and maybe number four, depending on how long you've got to speak, they become the things that you're going to use to back up your solid point. So do the things that they should be supporting the point that you're trying to make, they should be relevant to your solid point, and that's it, draw a line, the rest of it is not going to make your presentation. If you've got a highly detailed topic, if you've got lots of information that you're trying to get, get across, create handy Give it to your audience to take away, because they're not going to remember every single thing you say, think back to your school days, think back to going to a lecture, think back to all of those, you know, experiences yourself as an audience. You only remember the key things. Once you've got your solid point, you want to make sure it's relevant to the audience, because that's going to aid memory and use repetition.

And I think about the Martin Luther King, I Have a Dream speech to be one of the most sort of famous speeches of all time. He said, I have a dream over and over again, he didn't just say it once you see that a lot of times and you use repetition as a way to make his solid point. So once you've got your point, then you can start thinking about your presentation format. Now this is a presentation format that is quite common yours you see this in a lot of the literature so this is not something we've done. beam This is something was taken from the experts. And it's actually a really good format to use.

So, first of all, you want to start off with hen attention using introduction, you want to grab the attention of the audience. If you don't have a great introduction, it's going to be really hard to reel them back in later. theme, you want to give a preview. What do you think you're previewing here, your solid point, you're going to tell your audience what you're here to talk about, you're going to give them the point that you're going to be making any presentation. Number three is the few points it was number two, three, and maybe number four on your list of ranked order. And this is where you might add some stories or some illustrations or everything that's going to help consolidate the solid points that you're making.

So thank you think about how you're going to bake up that solid point. Then again, repetition. Number four, you got to recap your solid point, you might at number five want to put a QA. And so you might want to have something that some audience interaction, you might have pre prepared questions that you know the audience will be interested in. QA is always a great way to get some engagement going. And then of course, a closer and the whole thing is trying to get the audience to remember, you want them to go away with the message that you're trying to impart.

You want them to know that that's what you're here for. You want to leave them with something that they're going to remember. So think about that. A great introduction and attention getter, you're going to give you a solid point, you're going to tell them what you're going to talk about. You're going to make a few points that back up that solid point, you're going to repeat your point again, because repetition is key to memory, you might want to add some q&a Then you got to leave it with a closer something that leaves the room in a drive or leave going well, that was pretty good. That was something different.

Yeah, just think about any great TED talk that you've seen generally follows this format. So it's universally good.
