Now let's have a think about public speaking. So where do we use our public speaking skills. Some of you are actually doing sales presentations. And speaking in front of like a formal audience. Some of you wanted help with things like running team meetings, or sort of least formal sort of public speaking situations, and others have you had community things that you're doing that you'd like to be better at public speaking, when we do a presentation, we're selling something, we're either selling an idea, we're selling a philosophy, we might be even selling an actual physical product. But if you start thinking about public speaking or delivering presentations, the same way as you think about your sales skills, then it becomes a little bit easier, and they've got a lot in common.
So we're going to explore that a little bit today. It's important to think about these three things. And you might have some public speaking engagements that you're preparing for right now. And if you do, I want you to do this little activity. So what I'd like you to do do is write down on a piece of paper can be just a scrap piece of paper, three columns. And I want you to put the purpose of your speaking, the environment in which you're speaking and the audience in which you're speaking to.
So I want you to think about that. Now, a presentation can be anything from a one to one or a one to few interaction to a one to 1000 interaction. So it doesn't have to be a formal stage where you're up on stage and you've got a microphone and you're and you're talking, have a think about presentations is anywhere where you're exchanging an idea where you're trying to sell something, whether it be a concept, an idea, a product, and then think about these three things. What's the purpose of your speech, what environment you're speaking in, and what audience you're speaking to. Now, environment can be very important because sometimes You need to make certain arrangements for a particular environment. For example, do you need a microphone because it's a huge amphitheater?
Or is it something a little bit more intimate where you don't need to worry so much about your vocal range or being really loud and things like that. So, the first thing you want to do when you're preparing for any presentation is to consider these three things purpose, environment and audience.
