We're going to take a look at now is actually applying the electronic puncher for the management of peripheral neuropathy. So whether it's diabetic chemo induced, or whether it's due to post operative, where nerves actually been severed, there are a number of key points you can actually utilize when actually treating peripheral off the mainly the bay Fang point which goes across the toes 0.5 some proximal to the webspace of each individual toes. In addition to that, there are other key points that can use such as limit three, which is located between the first and second web space to songs proximal to the web space. Again, you've got spleen six, which is again on the inner side proximal to the shin and that is three songs proximal from the highest point of the medium Miley, Oli spleen six. In addition to spleen six, then you have stomach 36, which is quite an important point to actually utilize when making peripheral neuropathy.
Again, that's three songs down from the patella, one song lateral to the tibia. So that's quite a good point now halfway between the middle malleable and the actual knee joint to songs like actual to the shin is going to be stomach 40. So, again, these are excellent points you can actually utilize in addition to this, you can actually also utilize stomach 41 which is actually found along the actual ankle joint and that is literally on the joint crease of the actual ankle joint. Otherwise, you can also utilize other points which is stomach 34, which is quite an effective point for enhancing nerve conductivity. Now it's worthwhile Taking a look as to where some of these points are actually located and many studies do demonstrate that they are located close to nerve trunks, nerve roots. So if you look at points such as your pain point which is located across the metatarsal phalangeal, joint 0.5, some proximal to the web space.
Now if you look at the first and second the point that's between the first and second and even liver three, now what that will actually address is more your deep peroneal nerve, the ones between the second and third, fourth and fifth. Each one of those will address more the superficial peroneal nerve. Now if you do need a deep enough, it will also address more the deep branch of the tibial nerve. His spleen six will also address the tibial nerve. But if you look at where points such as stomach 36 is actually located And also your stomach 40. those points are actually located between the actual peroneal nerve. So that will be between the superficial and deep peroneal nerve.
So if you're applying electric winch to those particular points, they will have some effect on the actual nerve root. Now, if we also look at the function of each of these points, particularly once you start to look at stomach 36, and spleen six, these points have been shown to have a significant effect on reducing inflammation. So they're excellent point for reducing general inflammation. And that's not just local but systemic inflammation, they will actually reduce so if we start to look at peripheral neuropathy in itself whether it's diabetic or chemo induced, that is when a key things that tends to take place to the actual nerves itself so applying those two points will help to reduce inflammation. These two points will also help to keep the patient calm along with the three the upcoming points as well. And along with over three will help to deal with hot flushes impatience, who's presenting with chemo induced peripheral neuropathy.
So again, it will address more than one aspects of the pathophysiology. Now, the other important thing is, once we've actually applied the actual electrodes, it's going to be the frequency in which you set these to because the frequency is going to be very, very, very important. Now the frequency which has been demonstrated to have the greatest effect on enhancing nerve conductivity and also with regards to reducing pain, improve knock that is to hurt so the two hurts will allow the body to release its own endorphins. But one of the other areas is where in the brain x also has its effect is what you call it. periaqueductal gray. Now, the periaqueductal gray has been shown to be affected by diabetic and chemo induced peripheral up a thing, where you're going to get some inflammatory action in there, and the function of it is going to be compromised.
Whereas applying points such as your liver three, and also your stomach 36, spleen six, and setting it to a frequency of two hurt, that combined will directly have an effect on the periaqueductal gray on the descending pain pathways. It's important, however, to bear in mind that by playing that, you do need to have stimulation for at least 30 minutes to get the optimum results. So now, you're not just having a direct effect on the nerves and the nerve endings you also have an effect on the pain pathways as well and also reducing the inflammatory process. So therefore, at least early electro acupuncture, you can target more than pathophysiology as opposed to just purely focusing on the pain. So that's going to be quite important is you know how you approach it then For you're going to have more of a long term effect as opposed to short term.
The other key thing to bear in mind also is the importance of stomach 36. Now, that point has been shown to reduce oxidative stress, particularly within much control cells that has a significant impact on oxidative stress or again, utilizing points that addresses the whole pathophysiology of chemo induced and diabetic induce peripheral neuropathy.
