How to write a weekly menu plan and standard shopping list. Hi there, Scott America and welcome to this video. In this video you will discover how to write a weekly menu plan, how to plan one what to include and the benefits of using one. later in this video I will also show you how to use your weekly menu plan to write a standard shopping list, which is a list of all the ingredients you will need to cook everything on your weekly menu plan. How to write one and the benefits of using one. So messy question.
What's the most difficult, frustrating and stressful thing about cooking? Is it shopping for all the groceries? Is it dragging all the shopping home from the supermarket? Or is it all the cutting, chopping, cooking and washing up afterwards? All these things can be stressful in themselves. But the most stressful thing about cooking is working out what to cook day after day.
Today. So what's the solution to this universal problem? a weekly menu plan. So what is a weekly menu plan? face is a weekly menu plan. A weekly menu plan is a simple table that you draw up listing every single day of the week, Monday to Sunday.
And then every time you're going to have something to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. And the idea of a weekly menu plan is that you write down all of the things that you like to cook or you like to eat, and then plan out during the week when you're actually going to eat them. So what's so good about a weekly menu plan, it takes all the stress out of deciding what you're going to cook night after night, because you've already made the decision. It helps you cook smart and not hard in the kitchen and cuts your time cutting, chopping, cooking and washing up in half. And the reason it does this Is because you have a plan. And when you have a plan, you're a lot more organized.
And when you're a lot more organized, you're a lot more efficient. And when you're more efficient, you save so much time. And that's cooking smart and not hard. It will also save you hours of pushing a shopping trolley around the supermarket every week. And the reason it does this is because you know what you're going to cook every night of the week. You also know what ingredients you're going to need.
And because you know what ingredients you're going to need, you know what to shop for. And more importantly, you know what not to shop for. And lastly, a weekly menu plan will save you at least $50 every week of your grocery bill. And that's an extra two and a half to $5,000 a year in your pocket. And I'll show you how your weekly menu plan when combined with your standard shopping lists can easily do this for you every single week. So where do I start?
First of all, you write down a list of all the things you like to cook for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So here's an example. So write down what you like to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So for example, breakfast you like poached eggs with avocado, burcham usually Cuban sandwich etc. lunch, rice vegetable salad. quiche.
Tortellini, Cassie deal is nice to a salad and dinner, Master Man beef curry, lamb, cough de chicken, vegetable pie, hamburgers, roast chicken. These are just a few examples. What I recommend is you write down 10 to 15 examples for breakfast, lunch and dinner for each for each time of the day. And this will give you lots of variety to choose from when you're filling out your weekly menu plan. And then what you do is you allocate each food item that you like to cook and eat to a particular time of the week, so for example, Monday morning, we've decided that we're going to have poached eggs with smashed avocado, Monday lunch, we're going to have a roast vegetable in Costco solid salad. On Monday dinner we're going to have lamb coffee wraps with cucumber and sticky.
Tuesday burcham usually for breakfast lunches, quiche, dinner, chicken and vegetable pie, Wednesday, Cuban sandwich breakfast lunches chicken and cheese and chili, Cassie Diaz, and enemies maximum beef curry. And then you can see the rest of the examples here in the table. Now, there is some method to this instead of just writing down whatever you like wherever you like. And there is a little bit of planning goes into this. So if you notice on a Sunday night, Sunday dinner, we've cooking roast chicken with roast vegetables. Now the reason we put roast chicken with rice vegetables in there is because if you then go to Monday When your weekly menu plan rotate, you'll notice on Monday lunch, we've got a rose vegetable Of course because salad because what we're doing is we're working smart and not hard.
And we're going to use the leftover rice vegetables that we cooked on a Sunday night because we cooked extra in there roast vegetable in Costco salad for Monday lunch. Also on a Tuesday night, you notice we have a chicken and vegetable pie, because we can use our leftover chicken from a Sunday night roast in a beautiful chicken and vegetable pie on a Tuesday evening. So, again, we're cooking smart and not hard, and we're saving money. So this is the idea of a briefly weekly menu plan. What we're going to do now is combine our weekly menu plan with a standard shopping list. So what is a standard shopping list?
This is a standard shopping list. Again, a very simple table that you draw up. And the idea is that you list all of the ingredients on your standard shopping list that you will need to cook all of the dishes on your weekly menu plan. So you break down your standard shopping list into different sections for dairy, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, vegetables and Herbes pasta and rice, dry goods and frozen foods. And then have a look at your weekly menu plan and have a look at the recipes and the ingredients that you need to cook everything on it. And then you allocate those ingredients to your standard shopping list.
So for example, on the Monday morning we're having poached eggs with smashed avocado, which means we're going to need eggs in our dairy section. Or we're going to need butter, margarine, milk, cheese, meat and poultry we can make minced beef Because we're going to use that thought hamburgers later on in the week. We're gonna need stealing beef because we're going to need that for a mass amount beef curry, mince lamb is for our lamb coffers, we've got some frozen or fresh salmon pieces because that's for our salmon later on in the week as well. vegetables and herbs, pasta, dry goods, frozen foods, so you fill out your standard shopping list. And then once it's completed with all of the ingredients that you need for your weekly menu plan, this is a list of all the ingredients you will need to cook everything on that menu for that week.
So how do I use a standard shopping list? Well, what you actually then do is you compare all the ingredients listed on your standard shopping list with what you already have in your fridge freezer and pantry. What's missing Seeing is what goes on to your shopping list that you take to the supermarket. Because you now know what you need to buy to cook everything for the whole week. You also know what not to buy. And so what's so good about a standard shopping list?
A standard shopping This means you shop with your head and not with your stomach. I'm sure you're very familiar. As I am pushing a shopping trolley around a supermarket grabbing things that take your fancy or things that you maybe think you'd like to cook during the week. It's not the smart way to shop and you actually spend a lot more money than you intend to. Because you're shopping with your stomach and not with your head. A standard shopping This means you don't buy lots of groceries that you won't use or throw away because they go off before you cook them.
And you take all the guesswork out of what to shop for and know exactly what you need to buy for. Wake up because you know exactly what you need. You'll be in and out of the supermarket in 15 minutes or less, with only the groceries you need. Now, How good does that sound? But the main reason is because you're only buying what you need. You're not buying what you don't need.
And because you're not buying what you don't need, you're throwing away a lot less food, which costs money. And this means you're going to save thousands of dollars every year off your grocery shopping bill. money you can now save or spend on whatever you wish.
