Hi there stillmatic here and in this video I want to show you how to prepare and cook. asparagus. asparagus is a beautiful, beautiful vegetable. And it's very, very simple to prepare very, very simple to cook. And I'm going to show you a way of cooking it even simpler or even simpler every word I'm using. I'm using the microwave.

So this is a great way to prepare and cook my asparagus asparagus goes with it you know, pretty much most things goes with fish goes with seafood it goes with you can go with like chicken it's a really really great around vegetable. So if you want to come in a bit closer I'll show you how we prepare and cooking. When you buy asparagus you normally buy it like this. It comes in like a bunch all tied up and you get 123456 about seven pieces in a bunch of asparagus. Now what I do is I allow about to one bunch for two people. So we have enough asparagus here for for four people.

It's roughly like three, three and a half aspera guy or Spears of asparagus per person. So, further what we do, we take off the elastic bands, which are used to hold them all together. Bad bows, rid of that one slide. Now when you're buying asparagus, what you want to look for is nice smooth stems like this. And also that the the tips of the asparagus, the head of the asparagus, haven't started to go all mushy, you're starting to rot. So nice and firm asparagus like This this asparagus is not young but it's not old.

Now. The different types of asparagus we don't get white asparagus as well. So to prepare asparagus, just to explain, you can't eat all of these asparagus, the bottom parts the bottom like three or four centimeters, what we do is we normally we normally trim that off because about this, this amount of asparagus is quite woody in chewy, particularly with the old asparagus and the skin is very, very chewy as well. As if you get asparagus which is quite thick, what we have to do is we have to pay all this off which I'll do in a moment. Now if you get young asparagus, you don't have to peel it at all. All you do is show you and this is quite young asparagus and about two thirds of the way down just with a knife.

I cut it on an angle because it looks a lot better. When you present it, just slice it off. And then these little bits of asparagus here, you can keep these and chop these up if you want to make them into asparagus soup. That makes very nice soup. Don't throw them away, but you end up with a piece of asparagus that looks looks like this, about that size. Okay, now that's our asparagus.

So this is quite an old piece of asparagus. Now the skin is going to be quite, quite tough. So what we want to do is to peel the lower half of asparagus and get that tough skin off, which is what we do like this. And then what we do is we then trim it up. Just get rid of it all just like that. So we end up asparagus looks like this.

One we're doing painting our asparagus Getting that tough, fibrous enough. So you end up with your asparagus which is peeled from about halfway down. And then you can just trim it up nicely. So it looks like that are all roughly the same size. So that's what your asparagus looks like. So that's how we prepare it.

Then what we're going to do is to cook it. We're going to put all these asparagus in a bowl like this, and this is the bowl. We're going to serve it in. I'm going to answer this, a cup of water that's cold water 250 mils. We'll cover the dish with blood wrap, and then we're going to cook it in the microwave. When we cook the asparagus in the dish in the microwave, we don't cook the very, very long because it's a very delicate and vegetable and cooks really really quickly.

So what we're going to do is we're going to microwave it on high power for three minutes. Now my microwave here, this is a 900 watt microwave. If your microwave is a little bit more powerful than you need to microwave for maybe like two and a half minutes if it's less powerful more like a 750 watt, maybe microwave for four minutes, or depending on how much you'd like your vegetables cooked and I want my vegetables cooked like on what's called our bedtime so there's a little bit of texture bite to them. But the first time you cook your asparagus you might overcook it you might under cook it. That's okay. The second time you you microwave it, you cook it you can you know what you did wrong the last time so you can adjust the cooking time on your microwave accordingly.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to peel the rest of this asparagus Trim it all up, get into the ball. And then we'll move on with the next step. So ultimately asparagus now I'll see you soon. asparagus is all trim now. So come a little bit close up, and I'll show you how we cut it, and then prepare it in the ball. So this is the size, we want our asparagus.

And these are all of these for our spirit guy that I peeled the bottom third off, so we want everything to be roughly the same size. So all we do is trim them all up, take off the bottoms, and order asparagus. And now the size we want them to taking off roughly the bottom one to the bottom third as a one to 30 or asparagus because the bottom part is usually quite Woody. I'm very, very difficult to eight. So take asparagus, put it into Our dish we're going to cook it in what's going to serve in this, what we do, put in a cup of water, a cup of cold water. Take our club around, if I can find the end.

Here we go. There we go. Our asparagus. So that's our asparagus all ready to go into the microwave. I'm going to put the asparagus in the microwave now and microwave on high power full power for three minutes. So that should cook asparagus perfectly.

So I'll get into my quote now and I'll get back to you soon. Starbucks finished cooking three minutes high power on them in the microwave. I'll go and grab it now and we'll see what it looks like. Here we go. So come a bit closer and we'll take the gloves off and then you can see what this looks like. Here's our asparagus.

Be careful because it's hard to take off the cloud wrap this and therefore and then check with your asparagus is cooked on up. Just put a sharp knife in the asparagus if the knife goes in easily with only a little bit of resistance, your asparagus is perfectly cooked. That's perfectly cooked for me what we need do now is I'm going to tip off this water because we don't need it anymore. And then we'll season it and we can add some butter or olive oil. So I'm just gonna let me just get rid of this water be back in a moment. So here's our asparagus.

Now what we need to do is then just give it a little bit of seasoning and the pepper white pepper, and from what you can do now is you can add some olive oil you can add some lemon juice, or you could also add some butter or margarine, but I have over here some bearnaise sauce, which I made earlier, this is the cheats bearnaise sauce that you can get in the restaurants, sauces and dressings section The program and just going to put some of these beautiful bearnaise sauce over asparagus just like this. Absolutely beautiful. And there's our microwave steamed asparagus with bearnaise sauce, super delicious savory asparagus at the table with some extra extra bearnaise sauce or Hollandaise sauce or butter sauce or whatever or just some extra olive oil or lemon juice. Really, really delicious. Very, very easy to prepare. And the beautiful thing about this dish is that when you cook it, you cook it in the dish.

You're going to serve it in the dishes also nice and hot as well. So it keeps your asparagus Nice and warm while it's sitting on the dining room table.
