And welcome back to pillar two water. So what's in our water? chlorine, chlorine irritates our skin, eyes and throat. mixed with organic matter though it produces a byproduct called trihalomethanes, which when drunk produces free radicals in the body that trigger cell damage even in small amounts. Chlorine is also linked to an increase in allergies, and linked to damaged gut bacteria. fluoride added to the water damages our thyroid causes dental and skeletal fluorosis, neurological problems that is lower IQ and even lower fertility rate.
And I should note that both fluoride and chlorine impact our thyroid health lead, there's no safe level of lead for children and drinking water. Lead is a neurotoxin. And lead can also be present in paints, old paints in homes on older toys or toys from less than great manufacturing processes, Mardi Gras beads and especially in old pipes in our homes. pharmaceuticals we don't normally think of pharmaceuticals in our drinking water but currently most wastewater treatment plants do not remove drugs from the wastewater. That means that contaminated water circulates back into the water system, and trace amounts have been detected in drinking water all over the world. So what can we do?
Well, we could consider using a chlorine and fluoride filter. I myself love Berkey Water filters, and Berkey filters help keep some of the minerals intact while removing chlorine fluoride, as well as lead. You might also consider a reverse osmosis filter This will remove most pharmaceuticals from the water in addition to chlorine and fluoride. They're available as above counter filters. Now, in addition to below counters, and I've got more detail in the resources section of the PDF, bath and showerhead chlorine filters. There's so many to choose from.
I didn't list them all. But do a Google search, you could do a search on Amazon, there's plenty to choose from. You could also consider a whole house water filter. This would be mostly to remove larger particulate like heavy metals. Next step, we're going to talk about pillar three space. I'll see you there.
