Hi and welcome. This is your host Habib, and I'm going to start this course by first talking about virtual private networks. When you establish VPN tunnels between physical sites that are far from one another VPN provides means to connect these sites together. Most of the businesses gain from this technology because it is cost effective. This is an in house solution rather than using a solution like MPLS. From an ISP, for example, you can establish VPN using internet also known as unsecure media.
By definition, VPN extends a private network across public network and enables users to send and receive data across shares. or public networks as if they as if they are present in their own site offices. So the feeling is their computing devices are directly connected to the private network. The pic here shows three sites that are connected to the internet and have VPN between them. You can use routers or firewalls or combination of both and still achieve VPN connectivity between the sites. Now that is a solution for the sites or offices, but what about the remote users?
The solution for remote users is to provide them with remote access VPN software like Cisco anyconnect. Most of the vendors have their own software's. Basically, it depends On your constant VPN concentrator device or on the firewall that supports the VPN client connectivity, once the user uses that software and connects to their office VPN server, he or she will be able to work as if they are in their office. So this, this idea of VPN actually establish a long time ago. And, and it's been successful so far in providing, you know, security between between sites, and also transmission of the data. Using VPN has been pretty much secure.
And that's how it is I mean, internet is everywhere nowadays and internet is becoming faster and faster in most of the countries. And basically VPN becomes a way and a means to provide connectivity between the offices. Someone may debate that because most of the companies are moving into the cloud their services in the internet. And they may think that VPN may be an obsolete technology. But that's not the case. Because at some point, you still need to transfer information, data packets between between the offices.
So it's important technology. If you are a network analyst, network engineer that is helping your company and managing the infrastructure for the network, then it's a very important skill to have to know how to do these things. And this is the course I'm trying to present Through my personal experience to know how important it is to establish a secure VPN connection. Thank you. We'll move continue the course shortly.
