Death by chocolate is often a delightful treat. But death by PowerPoint is often the tormented result of poorly conceived PowerPoint presentation. We've all been there haven't we? a semi darkened room a presenter droning on while reading what's on the screen, every point illustrated by an unreadable slide. That's assuming that the presenter has even managed to get the equipment to work and load the presentation. A picture is worth 1000 words they say.

And that's why all the different types of visual aids PowerPoint has become the most widely used, in fact, probably overused, especially as it is apparently so easy to produce them without having artistic skills. PowerPoint has become ubiquitous and can if used properly, significantly enhance your presentation. But if use wrongly as it so often is, can ruin it. By the way, we will be talking about PowerPoint and using it because it is the most widely used program. But the points we make equally apply to other presentation software, such as keynote, impress, and others like that. A lot of presenters say that they will talk to the PowerPoint, and that's precisely what they do.

Ignoring rapport with the audience completely. So in this video, I'm going to ask poor guy to give a really bad presentation. Hi, guys. So welcome to TP electric. Limited TP electrical limited was started in 1985 by Tony Jones and Peter Smith. Oh hence the name TP they started a small premises in bloxwich, which is just outside Walsall.

Their first customer was the London Underground. They assembled a variety of wiring harnesses for the underground trains. Turnover was the turnover in the first year was turnover in the first year of trading was only 20,000. in year two it rose to 50,000 and in year 305,000. Within 10 years the business seller turnover of 800,000 with a net profit of 95,000. The company employs 25 staff including two directors. By 1995 tp electrical limited has established itself as a first class supplier of electrical wiring harnesses to the rail and automotive industry.

The company made a variety of wiring harnesses and looms. its customers including birth and coach manufacturers. In 1996, one of tepees customers, a company called Angie Harris bought the business of Tony and Peter, and integrated it into his existing operations. However, three years later, the business began to plan that and Peter brought the harnessed business. And Peter brought the harnessed business solution back up to mg Harris and started another TP electrical business. The second coming of TP electrical wasn't very successful, and in 2002, Peter Smith sold the company to Western Steve Smith.

Steve left a well paid job in the steel industry to set about building the company back up to the level of turnover enjoyed in the period of 1985 to 99. BY STEVE moved the business to a rented property a morsel comprising of 700 square feet. By 2007. Steve would be sorry. By 2007. Steve had built sales back up to 90 930,000 and made a small profit 2008 was a poll year for the onset of the recession.

By 2009. sales were back to 2007 levels, and by 2013, sales were 3 billion. Here's a graph of our sales from 2007 to 2030. Can everyone see that? These are some of our largest customers. Seven country railway limited up to birth coach company Limited. Bailey automotive conservers limited caveat minibus limited tram and railways limited CP manufacturers wires and harnesses for the following sectors but isn't coaches.

Minibuses? Please God ambulances, fire engine train carriages specialist vehicles. That's it. Thank you guy that was truly horrible. I'd like to explain where guy went wrong although I'm sure you spotted most of the faults yourself. As I point them out, we'll show you a brief clip to remind you.

First of all, die fumble the setup of the present He just wasn't prepared. Once he did get it set up, he gave the audience handouts before he started the result, the audience start reading the handouts rather than listening to him. And when he did start, what did he do? He obviously didn't know his material well enough, and he was using his slides as an aide memoire. Not only that, he looked at the slides while he was reading them rather than the audience. And his slides.

There were too many of them and they were packed with text so small that the audience couldn't read it. And did you spot the spelling mistakes? He should have had a lot less material displayed. Just headings and bullet points really. And did you hear the sound effects? That's an absolute No no.

As strange transitions between slides, and then to capital, he goes and stand in front of the screen, blocking the audience's view of it. I guarantee that even a few of these practices will have the audience restless whispering and reaching for their mobile phones within five minutes. So the message These are things you should not do no more death by PowerPoint. In the next video in will outline best practice for presentations and God will put his head on the block again and show you the same presentation but done properly this time. I'll see you then.
