Hi, I'm Patrick and I'm extremely excited to welcome you to my course Oracle database for beginners. This course is about how to use Oracle database and land two very important languages SQL and PL SQL. This course is meant for beginners, so I do not expect any prior knowledge of database or SQL or anything related to database. The course is designed to teach you all concepts through examples. So you are expected to try all the examples in your system and try exercises given at the end of each lecture seriously. We use the latest version of Oracle called Oracle Database 18 C. And we use SQL developer to interact with Oracle we use Express Edition which is a free edition from Oracle The course starts from what is DBMS and it takes you through various important concepts.
You start with installation, how to download Oracle and install, how to use SQL, the most widely used language in the context of databases. grouping and joining are two very important concepts related to retrieving data. We also talk about sub queries which are used to build complex queries. database concepts like views, indexes and sequences are thoroughly covered. We talk about how to implement security, we use regular expressions for pattern matching. pl SQL is a procedural language use it to create program units, and we understand the control structures like if statements looping structures, and we understand how to handle exceptions raised and how to deal with cursors, both implicit and explicit.
We talk about how to build program units like procedures, functions and packages. database triggers are used to implement business rules. We understand how to do that. And finally, we talk about constructing SQL commands dynamically and executing them. I also provide a few other resources to start with my GitHub repository, one for Oracle queries, one four PL SQL programs. I also have a book titled Oracle database for beginners sold in Amazon in the form of Kindle edition, and it's a great companion for this course.
All the very best, keep learning, keep growing. I hope this course is going to be of great value to you.
