Our second exercise is the hide and go seek. This exercise is excellent for creating that isolation of the tongue and strengthening it. Your tongue is going to be working independently for this exercise. for it to happen, you have to open wide and you're going to move your tongue straight out of the mouth. And for this exercise, you're going to open and extend your tongue straight out of the mouth, without having your tongue resting on your lips, or your teeth. Now, you will have some touching of the teeth with your tongue however, as long as you're not resting On your feet, it is okay.
You're going to extend forward and bring your tongue back with controlled, steady movements. We want to make sure that we are able to do this without utilizing your head, your shoulders, your neck or your face to help propel the tongue or stabilize it. You're going to perform 10 repetitions two to three times daily using a mouth prop as needed. Our goal is to extend the tongue out smoothly and easily utilizing only tongue muscles. Pictured here is a good example of the hide and go seek. It is very stable the tongue it is not resting on the teeth, it is supporting itself and there is some tooth touching.
However, it is obvious that the tongue is able to sustain its own lift as it is expected. Send it out. So you want to extend it out, bring it back in and without closing extended out again, bring it back in and do so for the full 10 repetitions.
