Last night I mistakenly poured the wrong dish soap into my dishwasher. By the time I realized that it was too late to correct it, I wasn't focused on the task. I was not at all mindful. And this is why meditation is such a useful practice. because it teaches us to be mindful, to pay attention to what we're doing. One of the greatest benefits of meditation is the carryover into your life.
The aim is to be 100% aware of what you're doing at all times. Of course, who does that? Maybe Tibetan monks but the rest of us can at least work on it. Why is it so difficult to stay focused? When you're involved in a project that's interesting to you, it's easy to stay focused. But when you're doing some mundane tasks that doesn't hold the same fascination.
It's also easy for your mind to wander to more exciting or pressing topics. And this is why they refer to meditation as a meditation practice, because it takes practice. When the cares of my heart are many, your constellations cheer my soul. Song, Chapter 94 verse 19,
