Hey, welcome back. In this video, what I want to show you is how to set up your very own website. If you're a complete beginner, and you don't know how to get your domain name, how to set up hosting. So in this video, I'm going to talk about that I'm going to recommend a few resources where you can go to get all of this taken care of. Then after that, we're going to move on to actually installing the website, and you'll see how simple that is when you know what you're doing. The first thing that I want to talk about is hosting.
Obviously, this is where your website is going to be located. One of the most reputable hosting companies out there is definitely hostgator. The reason why I like them is because of their customer support, whatever needs you have whatever questions It doesn't matter if it's technical, or even very simple newbie questions. They're going to be there to handle those questions and issues for you. They really go above And beyond when it comes to even tweaking your website, which usually hosting companies don't really help with, in my experience Hostgator has always helped with a lot of these things. When you get on Hostgator want to take a look at web hosting over here.
Even though our goal is to install WordPress on our website, you want to take a look at web hosting. When your recommend is getting the Baby Plan, you've got the Hatchling Plan which is okay but the problem with this is you only get have one single domain name, which might be okay when you get started. But in my experience, it's always better to get the Baby Plan so that you can put more domain names on one hosting account. You also have the business plan but in my opinion, this is not necessary unless you need a toll free number. When it comes to the Baby Plan, you have a few options for paying, you can pay even up to three years up front and then you only end up paying $6 36 cents per month. You also have the monthly Six months, and one year option, the monthly option is $7 96 cents per month.
And all you need to do is click Sign up now, and they will get you started. That's it when it comes to hosting. The next thing they want to talk about is your domain name. Well, you can get a domain name with Hostgator as well, my recommendation is that you go with namecheap.com. Again, their support for domain names is amazing. They have their neat way of organizing everything in the members area.
It's very clear and easy to maneuver around the members area. And that's why I recommended I have probably over 100 domain names here named cheap and I never have a problem managing them because of the way they've laid out the members area. When it comes to the domain name want to go with a.com If possible, if not.net is also okay, if you have a name for your product or anything that comes to mind, you can go ahead and put that in your domain name in here. For example, you could put your surname and marketing Or you could put your last name and consulting or something like that, and then.com. Then once you click the search button is going to show you if the domain name is available or not, it's also going to show you the price. Of course, this is just an example domain name, obviously, I'm not going to buy this.
But if I were, then I would be able to do so for $10 16, nine cents per year to simply add it to the cart, and you will be good to go. This is it when it comes to domain names and also hosting. The next thing that I want to show you is how to actually install your website and make sure that it's working. I'm going to go ahead and open up this site. As you can see, right now it's got nothing on it. It just says index and nothing's really popping up.
This is because there's nothing on the website. What we're going to do now is install something and then come back and show you exactly how you can do this as well. The thing they opened just now is the Hostgator control panel. What this is is basically a memory area that you get access to. Once you sign up for Hostgator, they're going to give you your cPanel login details, then there's a lot of things you can do here. The thing that we care about right now is just going here to software and services and clicking Quick Install.
Once we click on that, we'll want to find WordPress. Here we go WordPress, let's click on it. I'm not really aware of these other premium options, but I know that I definitely do not need them, you want to go with the free option, obviously, and click Install WordPress now is going to ask you to select your domain name. I'm going to go ahead and select mine from this list of domain names. I'm sorry about this, but I'm going to have to blur some things in here because I have a ton of domain names. Let me just find the one that actually want to use for this particular case.
Over here it says install path here. If you want to have your website in a different path. For example, when you type your website.com slash marketing, then you can put that in there And the website will be located on that path. In this case, we just want to go with.com or whatever domain name you have without an additional path, just leave this empty. Next we have the admin email over here. I'm just going to put my email.
There we go. For blog title, I'm just going to put test blog, because it's just to show you what I'm doing. For admin user, you can put your name in there or you can put administrator. There we go. Now I'm going to click Install WordPress. Now they're trying to upsell you some themes and whatnot.
But we don't need that to just click here. No thanks. I'm a web designer, even though I'm not. It's a neat marketing trick for them to make us purchase their upsell. There we go. Now the installation is complete.
Let's go back to the website and just hit refresh and just see what happens. There you go in just a second we went from a blank domain where there was nothing to not having a WordPress website that you can easily edit. That's also something that I'm going to show you in the very next video. Now if you go back here and click on View credentials, you're going to have the login details need to click here. And this is going to take you to the admin area. And then we've got the user name and password.
I'm not going to blur my password or username here, but I'm definitely going to change it later on. There we go. Let's give it a second to log us in. Here we are. This is the WordPress members area. If you're not familiar with this, it might seem pretty much like rocket science right now.
Especially when you see these things like jetpack and whatnot, when they're worried has nothing to do with rocket science. It's super simple. I'm going to show you exactly what you need to do in this WordPress site in the next video, and I'll explain why we need to use such a WordPress site. That's it for this video. For now, what I want you to do is get your domain name, get your hosting, install WordPress. Don't buy any upgrades.
Don't buy any themes that they try to upsell you because in the next video, we're going to talk about the themes that you actually need to use in order to make this work. That's it for now. Go ahead and buy these things. Get your domain name, get your hosting, and then I'll see you in the next video. Thanks
