Okay, so now that we know a little bit more about Lightroom, let's start importing some images. And once we get some images, we'll have a tour of the Lightroom interface. So open Lightroom and just click the input button towards the bottom left corner of Lightroom interface. You can also use the menu, you can file and then import photos and video, I'm just going to click the input button. If you've plugged in a memory card Lightroom detected automatically some automatically grab your memory card or if you use a card reader, or if you have a memory card or if you plug in a computer, a computer, a camera, or even a mobile phone or a tablet Lightroom detected automatically so going to detect any removable media with images on it. And it's going to show you all previous of the images in here.
Okay, so keep a memory card selected. Keep eject after input ticked Swanson From Well, if you want to, if you want Lightroom to eject your memory card after it finishes importing images, just keep it ticked, I keep it technicals, I would usually want to input all the images. I'll show you how to manage images in Lightroom. Anyway, you can also browse for your computer system, but we're going to do it this one for now. And we'll look at importing images from your computer as well. Okay, so we're using memory card.
On the in the center, you can see all the images. In the bottom left corner, you can see how many images you have and the file size as well. Now mine has got the asterisk symbol in here, because I've got copy as dng. So I'm going to switch to copy for now and here. The Asterix appears as it was that because if you convert in images to another format Lightroom will give you just an estimate file size, okay? So keep it as copy for now.
Okay, I'll explain the other options later on. You can't use move an ad if you copied from memory card Lightroom will not move from a memory card, which is great. Because you don't want to delete the images from the memory card, you can just add, because you can just add images from removable media at option basically allows you to point Lightroom to a location on your computer, we have the images, and use them from the current location is one of the amazing features in Lightroom. Lightroom is so flexible, because you can have images anywhere on any hard drive is connected to your computer could be external or internal. Right? But you can't add from America.
Okay, now on the right hand side or by the way in the center, you can tick the images you want to import. I'm importing all of them, but you can take on antique images. You can also see them bigger by clicking on this icon here. So you get a live view. You can just browse for the images using the arrow keys on your keyboard. So you can do that as well.
Okay, so we go back to grid view Make the thumbnails big and small as well. So you can make them bigger and smaller. You can sort them this sorted by capture time by default speakers also sort them by the name or by the media type. Okay, now on the right hand side, first of all, we need to choose the location. And to make it easier, if you scroll all the way down here on the right hand side to destination tab in here, it's going to delete this for now. And I'm ticket.
Normally what you say is something like that. So for the destination, choose the location where you want to the images to go. Okay, so I'm going to copy them onto a local disk. And I'll pick a location. So I'll actually use my pictures folder by default, which is great. I can use any location you want.
So something to keep in mind when you work with images in Lightroom Lightroom will create a reference to images What I mean is, you can keep images anywhere you want, just make sure data selection can access them. So that's why you make a decision where you want to keep all the images. For these lessons, I'm going to keep all the images in my pictures folder. But I'm going to create a sub folder inside my pictures folder to keep all the images. Okay. So what I'm going to do is, I'm just going to go to find that or you go to, to, I'm going to go to Explorer or you go to finder, if you're on a Mac, I'll go to my pictures folder.
And I'll create a sub folder here. And this will be my, say, my images. So all we're doing here is we're creating a folder somewhere on your computer. We're going to keep all the images. I'm going to keep them in this my images folder. Okay, so back to Lightroom.
Let's refresh so let's go to another location. Let's minimize it, go to my pictures. Let's close it. Let's reopen, it should refresh automatically. And then we're going to change the organize to into one folder. Okay?
Otherwise you just organizing by date, which will create a bit like a mess. You can see in here when you go to by date, you'll get all these different folders in here. Now that's too much, I don't want that. We could do it if you wanted to, to organize into one folder. Okay, let's go down to my pictures. Okay, doesn't seem to see the folder yet.
So I'm just going to choose a different destination. Sometimes you may need to actually close and reopen input dialog box. But let's try once more, so let's just move it down to some things that may happen. Okay. Then we'll go to local disk again. We'll go to My Pictures oops, my pictures.
Okay, still doesn't see them. So I'm going to click Cancel. This happened sometimes, I'll click the Import button Lightroom remembers everything you've done. So remembers memory card or the images selected, and I'll just scroll down to make it show it's into one folder. I'm going to remove this for now into sub folder, okay, scroll down my pictures, and I'll select my images folder. So all the images are going in here.
Okay. And we'll create a sub folder here as well. So we're going to take into sub folder, create a folder in here, we'll just put a name whatever you want in here. So I'm going to call it say maybe they want we can always rename it. I'll show you how to do it in Lightroom. So this one is fine.
So now back up and here. We're going to look at all these options. Here, this will be quite a bit of information so I'm going to add in the next video
