The next position we would like to show you is the sideline position. And like three, rub Behold, the sideline position can be very useful for when you've had a certain section to take pressure off your wound and your stitches. Equally if you've had stitches down below if you had an episiotomy or a perinatal tear that's been sutured, and it's still uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time to avoid pressure on your stitches. Again, the sideline can position can be very useful. The sideline position is also really good for nighttime feeding and just generally when you want to get some rest, because you can lie down as well as the baby so both of you will be lying on your science. Lucas and me are going to demonstrate this now.

And the principles of good positioning should be in place just like in the other positions as well. So we start out with supporting ourselves a little bit as well so it can be useful to have a feeding pillow. So you might want to put the feeding pillow around you and support your back. If you don't have a feeding pillow, you can just use normal pillows to support your back with and then one pillow under your head. Like so. So you'll be on your side supported and then baby should also be lying on his site.

So you don't want to have Benny be lying on his back and then turning his just his head towards the breast. Because again, that will make it harder for baby to get a deep latch and for baby to swallow effectively because he'll have his head twisted and his head and body will not be in a straight line. So what you want to do is get baby also parallel to you, Tommy to Tommy again, tell me to tell me head and body in a straight line. And then you'll start out with the same principles as in the other positions of nose to nipper, head free and bringing baby on cheerleading that we're going to come a little bit closer now. So you can see better for the actual attachment can be a little bit tricky in this moment When you're starting out when you're still practicing to attach baby, so it can be helpful sometimes to have your partner there who cups baby's neck and shoulders.

And then as baby opens their mouth really wide, then your partner can put baby on for you quickly. But if you're on your own, there are a few things that you can do to get baby on in this position. So you either so instead of lying flat for the initial attachment, you push yourself up a little bit and ensure your baby stays on his side. And then you just, you will cut your breast making a C shape and just push yourself up with your elbow here. And then kind of lean over your baby Start out noster nipple, and then push your baby on at the same time. Then once he's on, you can go back, nine down.

And in this position, you can really relax as well. And in order to keep baby clothes so that you're not like away from him and his body twisted while he's pulling on your nipple. Best way to bring baby in close again is by pulling his four minute. So pulling his bump into you will automatically free up the head and bring the chin deeper into the breast and also free up the nose. If you're worried about baby not being able to breathe on the breast, always pulling them closer by pulling in the bump. Closer, that will push the chin deeper into the best and free up the nose.

If you think your lattice not correct so it's babies attached, or you think it's sore, and the latch is not correct, don't pull your baby off the best that will make you sore. So if he's on what you do is take the little finger of your hand and insert it into the corner of baby's mouth and just put it into the corner of baby's mouth. And that way you can release him and that will not be sore if you're putting him off the best because he's created a vacuum that can be quite sore. So now we're going to show you another way of bringing Baby on the sideline position without pushing yourself up on the side. So without going up like this, so this is what we've just done, cut the breast and then kind of leaning over your baby tickling baby's nose and upper lip.

But if you don't want to push up or you find that too hard and difficult because of your stitches, stay in line flap your arms up over the baby's head, and then reach around with this hand. So reach around again, to the same old cup baby's neck and shoulders here. Cut baby's neck and shoulders with that CC and then when he opens why, then you bring him on I might have to work the two together the two hands together, you might still have to support the breast as well. Now I have to say this is more difficult if you stay lying down so it's easier I think, to push yourself up a bit, bring baby on, and then go down and relax. Finally, we just want to show you the lying down position. The lying down position is very helpful as well.

If you want to relax. This is a position you might be eating for your very first feed straight after delivery when you're lying back. This is also helpful if you have any attachment issues. This allows your baby to use their natural their instinct to help self attach and use the principles of biological and nurturing. So this position might require a little bit more patience. And a bit more practice.

But it allows baby to work out how to attach themselves which can be beneficial for the other positions, once they've learned how to deeply attached themselves. Really the the breast is like a clock face and it can be accessed from 360 degrees. So you don't have to be restricted to one position. And you can experiment a little bit as well. But those positions that we've just gone through the traditional cradle, hold the cross cradle, whole direct behold, sideline and laid back positioning. There was those are the ones that moms typically feed in It gives you a wide variety to, to work with, so that you don't get sore and that your baby is effectively drinking from the breast and Ingrid to empty the breast effectively, and also can help to relieve endorsement or blocked docs.

So if you have been able to practice all those different positions, you will find that that's very helpful and that you're, you're on the road to success for breastfeeding.
