Okay, welcome. Hey, we're, like I said, we're talking about division. And right here are some examples of how we represent division. This is six over three or equals two, or some people say, three goes into six, they call them goes into this because basically we got the number six as our dividend right here, introducing some terms, and three is our divisor. And the answer is two, which is called the quotient. So six divided by three, or how many times three can go into six?
Well, that's two times and that's represented by buy. Some examples here, six divided by three. This is another way of representing six divided by three. This is my division symbol right there. six divided by three is how we say that. And over here we have a bracket and this one here is used for a long, long division.
Alrighty. So again different ways that we can graphically represent division. And if you remember back when we talked about multiplication we talked about, we had the answer, which was the product, and we had two or more numbers, which would call factors. And those factors could be interchange, so I could say, two times four is eight, or I could say four times two is eight. That's not the case in Division. The dividend and the divisor cannot be exchanged.
Alright, if you do that you'll get a different number or a different answer and that's really not what we want to do. Okay, we're going to divide right here, I put the example 25 and 276. And I, I went a little ahead and added some decimal points. There are some placeholders right here. All right, you'll notice the two zeros there. So let me explain how we do this.
All right, now the first thing we do is we go 25 can go into seven. Well, it can go into seven zero times. So I take the zero here, put it right on top here, and I say zero times Five is zero right there, and zero times two is zero right there. Okay. Then I subtract zero my, in this example 00 from 76. What do I get 76.
Then I say next thing 25 right here can go into 76 how many times three times three times 25 is 75. I subtract 75 from 76. I get a one right there. Now notice I put the two zeros after the decimal point, I bring down one zero right here. Okay 25 can go into 10 100 times zero times 25 is 00. I subtract 00 from 10.
And I get 10. Then I bring down my other zero there. Four times 25 is 100 100 minus 100 is 00. And I should have put a little negative there. I'll do I'll get that now. All right.
Rewind this and watch it again. And I'm going to give you another example. Just Like this on the next slide, but look at it again. So basically I'm repeating myself, I'm doing the same operation. Okay? Again, the same operation over and over, watch it.
I'm going to clear the slide. We're going to do another one next. All right, we're going to do another problem here, and we're going to divide 2.5 into 100.1 right here, but we've got to move the decimal point. All right, as I mentioned that right there. So if you look, this is my divisor right there. And I need to move the decimal point one place to the right, all right.
So when I do that, I get 25 which is here. What I do when the divisor I have to deal with the dividend and there we go, so on now I move this one over here. And I get his where I set up my problem 25 divided into 101 or 1001. All right. All right. Again, what I do here in the divisor I have to do here in the dividend, I had to move my decimal point one place over to the right, right there.
What I do in the div divisor I have to do in the dividend right there. Okay, so we set up now we set up both divisor and dividend. So now let's do the problem. Okay, I've cleared the slide off. And now if you notice, I've got some color coding in there. And we'll, we'll go through that as we explain this problem.
So the first thing I do is say 25 right here goes into one. Well, it goes in zero times. So zero times 25. Okay, zero times five is 00 times two is zero. Here we are right there. All right.
So what I need to do is I need to subtract 00. From 10 is my answer 10 right there. All right. Now how many times can 25 goes into 10? It also goes in zero times. So zero times five is zero, and I represent that by the red there.
Zero times two is zero. Right here again. All right? Again, I do the same thing. 10 minus 00 is 100. In there we go.
Well, I take that back I made a mistake. 00 minus can is can I have now bring down this zero. Sorry about that. I need to bring down that zero. All right, so that's the zero that I bring down. So 100 How many times can 25 go into this 104 times four times five is 10.
Four times two is eight. And plus the two that I carry is 100 100. Minus 100 is 00 like I show you here. All right, again, now I have to bring down this one. Okay, bring down the 125 goes into one, zero times it's color coded. Zero times five is 00 times two is zero.
10 Minus 00 is still 10. I now have to bring down this zero here. Okay, bring down that zero there. 25 into 10 goes in zero times up here. Zero times five is 00 times two is zero. Zero 10 minus zero is still 10.
I have to bring down this zero 25 goes into this 104 times four times 25 is 100 100 minus 100 is 000. All right, so what is my answer? My answer is 25 divided into 100 dot one back to the original answer on the original problem is 40 dot 04 that's My answer, so my answer is 40 dot 04. There we go. Look at it again. I'm going to do one more, one more after this.
And then I'm going to give you some problems. But you need to look at these probably one or two or three times, and then try a couple on your own. I will have a couple at the end. After the next problem that I will do. I'll give you the answers and then they'll we'll be an additional worksheet in this lesson. All right.
Take your time. Go through it. Once you do a couple and get the act, it won't be that bad. Alright, see you in the next time. Okay, let's go through this one in here is my problem. Three dot eight four divided by one dot Right here.
So what's the first thing I need to do? I need to move the decimal. So I move the decimal from here to here, which I'm showing you there. And what I do when the divisor I have to do in the dividend, so I move the decimal from here to here. And that's what I have there. All right.
So now what's, what do I do? Well, I'll say 12 goes into three, zero times. All right, so now I multiply 12 by zero, this one here. So zero times two is 00 times one is zero. Then I have to subtract. I subtract 00 from 38.
What do we get? 3812. goes into 38. How many times three times three times two is six. Three times one is three. I subtract minus up. 38 minus 36 is two right there.
I bring down my 412 goes into 24. Two times two times 12 is 2424 minus 24 zero. All right, my answer is three dot two. So what I can say is one dot two divided in three dot eight for E One I'm sorry, let's get let's erase that that would be three dot two. That's my answer, three dot two. Okay, another way we can check our answer, we can say three dot two times 1.2.
And that should give me that number three dot eight, four. Let's see if that's right 1.2. Well, two times two is four. Two times three is six. One times two is two, and one times three is three. And guess what I got, if I add that up, I get three dot eight, for all right, because if you remember I've got to move my decimal how many places?
How many decimal places do I have? I have to. So I move it to places over here. All right, if you have a problem with that, go back and review my, my lesson on multiplication. All right, so it all works out. Again, go through some of these examples that I'm going to give you.
If you need to go back and review the instruction on how to do long division. It's, it's a little bit complicated. You can do it if you try, go through it a couple of times. I'm going to give you a couple of examples and the answers right after this one and then again, now there's a worksheet with them also. Alright. Okay, here are some problems.
Take a few minutes and do them when you have finished, rejoin this presentation and you will see the answers. So hit the pause button, do the exercises, at least make an attempt to do them then the join the seminar or rejoin this presentation and you'll see the solutions. Okay. Okay, let's move on and I'm going to show you the answers where you go take a look at them. Again, there's a help number up there 78120 to 4396. Give me a call.
If I have a enough of demand or enough of requests, we'll set up some type of way webinar and we'll go over some of these if if I get enough people that want to see that. I'm hoping with the help number and the feedback or contact I get through the platform that will be able to straighten you out. But again, I want to help you, I make that I'm sincere about that. So you need to make the first step you need to get ahold of me, either via the phone or email. And we'll look, we'll try to help you out as best we can. We'll do everything in our power.
That makes sense to get you to understand what I present here. All right. We're going to do yeah, we're going on to the next subject.
