Okay, let's talk about your inbox. The name inbox comes from the old days of paperwork. And yes, I am that old. So I remember the dinosaur days when we still had paper, some of you may still have paperwork in your office. And in those days, we had what was called an inbox. The inbox was where all the new papers went for you to sort through.
So you never worked in your inbox in the old paper system. Instead, you took everything out of your inbox, and then sorted it into where it was going to you know where you're going to work on it next. But somehow, we're not using the email inboxes the same way I've met clients with over 10,000 emails in their inbox. So somehow we've forgotten that the inbox is really only meant for sorting our emails. So what I want you to do is I want you within your inbox now is to create these work folders within your email program. And for some of the programs, they're called folders.
For programs like Gmail, I think they're called labels, it doesn't matter what they're called it will all work the same. So I want you to create just five Work Folders. The folders will be now which are going to be for your high priority items you need to work on today. Next, which is going to be for the second level priority, which are worked on only after you've finished the important urgent emails in the now pending for emails you can't answer just yet because you need further information reading which is going to be where all those articles and newsletters and resource type of emails go and archive and we're going to show you how to work with all of these. Now some of you might be saying garlin, how come you're just archiving instead of having all different customer folders. I'm going to show you Why a bit later, but having just these five folders will keep it very clean and simple.
And I promise you, it's still quite easy to find all of your customer materials in the archive folder once they're dealt with. Okay, so let's now that you've got these folders created, let's move on to the next lesson which is going to be how to do triage on your inbox.
