Okay, and now we're going to make the base for a smoothie bowl. Unlike the other bowls we made, the smoothie bowl is something you make and you enjoy right away. In fact, it's best right away. So the basic recipe for the smoothie bowl is you want to include one banana that can be either frozen or fresh. Some of my house ate all bananas yesterday. So I'm using frozen and then one cup of other fruit.
This is a combination of fresh apple and frozen blueberries that into the blender as well. And then the key is to only add as much liquid as you need to get everything to blend up. Otherwise you will accidentally make a smoothie instead of a smoothie bowl, in which case you can drink it or I can give you some ideas for how to pick it up. But well so we're going to start with just half a cup of we're just going to use water in this movie bowl this time. You could use some kind of plant based milk you could use coconut Water. You could even use juice if you wanted to.
But we're just gonna use water. We're going to put the lid on. This takes a little while and sometimes it's good to stop and kind of scrape down the sides. Make sure everything's getting incorporated because I'm using a frozen banana. It's taking a little bit longer so give it another go. Okay, I think that looks pretty good.
It's really up to you this looks like the consistency that I like. I like it thick enough so that it can hold some toppings but not as thick as like a nice cream like ice cream but you could make it thicker if you wanted to. So that is the base of our school smoothie bowl. Now this is just a really basic base. If you wanted to add some leafy greens to it and you have a high speed blender like a Vitamix. You could If you just have a regular blender, what you can try doing works in some lenders is just blending the liquid you're using with the greens first till you get like a green juice and then add your frozen ingredients and that way you won't be left with like chunks of spinach or dandelion greens or whatever in this movie.
What else did I want to say in terms of the way it looks when it's done, if you want it to be a pretty color, keep in mind the whole color wheels from our class and don't combine complimentary colors. So if you are going to put greens in, don't put raspberries or strawberries because you'll end up with like a blackish brown smoothie, but it probably will taste great. But if you're concerned about making it pretty, you just can't kind of keep the colors in mind. If you can't have bananas or you don't have bananas or you don't want to use bananas, you can use something else to make a kind of creamy. One option is you could use a quarter or even half of an avocado or this is gonna sound crazy but it works. You can use a small cooked sweet potato.
That'll give it kind of a creamy base and a little sweetness. If you don't want to use banana, that's also a cool way to eat some vegetables at breakfast. So that's your basic smoothie bowl, and it's all ready for us to put the toppings on.
