Hi guys hope you're doing good. Welcome to the course a quick guide for Katia part design. So, as I said part design in this course, we are going to focus specifically on developing 3d models or part models using the ktr software. So, getting into the lecture. So, coming to the introduction part for Katia, let's say this Katia These are our soft AutoCAD Katia unit graphics. So these all are software's which help us in designing certain components, assemblies or some kind of products.

So before advent of these computers into our manufacturing or design sections or design fields, everything was done manually, which was a hectic and very highly error prone due to a lot of human intervention intervention in each and every process. Now once these computers have stepped into the design and manufacturing sections through CAD and cam packages such as AutoCAD Katia pro software's for CAD and master cam for cam their work and life of designers and manufacturers have become a lot easier. Now getting to the Katia, which is Computer Aided three dimensional interactive intellect application sorry this was developed by Dassault systems which is a French company and this is like a bit of superior and invented or develop after development of AutoCAD which is another CAD package. Actually ktr is easier, advanced and friendly, user friendly software that which is superior in these particular aspects when compared to AutoCAD.

Say for example, in AutoCAD, you might be knowing it initially it was developed specifically for developing putting in engineering drawings later on now of course 3d in AutoCAD also available. But still Katie a graphic user interface for Katie is highly user friendly. And also Katia overcomes the limitation of AutoCAD the limitation is that in AutoCAD, once we are generating a model or an engineering drawing for suppose if there is any error, then we cannot rectify it at that point we have to start afresh, but in Kenya, we can go to this specifications tree select a particular part or sketch and make the changes required. So that is possible in Katia. So also one more advantage that this CAD files can be directly used for analysis by exporting them to analysis software such as ANSYS for finding out various mechanical thermal or fluid properties. Also, this CAD these CAD files can be exported to the Manufacturing software such as master cam, which are used in conjunction with machine tools for direct production of the components.

Now, if we look at the Katia graphic user interface these are the things that we are going to look how to have a look at. Now for suppose there is a start menu there are some other menu toolbars menu bars Main Menu bar where we have we can find a file edit view etc menus there. Now, another thing is specification driven to the left corner or top left corner there I will explain what is that then there are there are many toolbars of which I have specified three here. And there I now have another one more is navigation compass. So, those are the things in JIRA in specifically we'll take a look at coming to the start menu of ktr Once we get in there we can see different packages inside there in Start menu again there is infrastructure mechanical design, shape analysis and simulation, AC plant machining etc etc and so on.

On that as a mechanical engineer, we will be focusing on mechanical design, where in for this course, we will be focusing on part design, but some more are available in Mechanical Design those are assembly design sketcher product, functional tolerancing and annotation, so, on. So, in further courses, I will be publishing this assembly design and one more thing is drafting. So, right. So, so, to know what we have seen is just the introduction part. Now, let us quickly acquaint with the basic toolbars features commands in the drawing, then we can go to the actual practical experience. I will show you on the software itself presently let's acquaint by seeing at the Now there is one specifications As I mentioned earlier, where we get the information or history or information on history of step by step process, how we have developed a particular product or component in that in what access or what planes we have produced a sketch on the sketch what type of features we have added everything will be there, we will be able to select that patrol sketch or that particular feature and we will be in a position to edit that.

Now, coming to view menu, depending on the user's requirement and users need, sorry, the requirement or need are the same requirement, one can have the desired view of the particular component or product in the workbench. Now, to have that there are some people sometimes we may be required to zoom in and look or select for a particular small edge of power total overall component. That time we need to zoom in sometimes we have to have a look of total Then we have to zoom out, we have to have a look on the backside view our back said What is there in the backside of the company then we have to rotate it to the backside we have to sometimes we have to fit the total component into the screen. So, depending on the requirements, there are several options like fly in fit to the screen, Pan, June rotate etcetera and having several views.

So, those are the things there. Now, we can direct the we have direct toolbar for view also otherwise, we can go to View in the menu Main Menu Bar and there we can go to toolbars where we can find this view toolbar or as here we can readily find out fit fit all in zoom area zooming out pan rotate modify these things in the View menu on them in the main menu bar. Now, come into sketcher module, because this is the first one because for having a part drawing first of all We need to develop a 2d sketch, select a plane and go to sketcher. Once we draw a proper profile, then go to the workbench main workbench. Then in that workbench we apply certain features to this particular 2d profile that we have developed in the sketcher module. So, that we can get a product finally or component Finally, so, to draw that basic profile, we need this sketcher module and in this sketch or model there are several there are several toolbars which will enable us to draw the desired profile some of them are sketched sorry.

Once we have done this skirt completed this profile, then we can exit the workbench there we can apply sketch based features and rest of which we will learn all those things. Now commonly used toolbar in sketch or module or mode to draw a required profile are like the profile toolbar, constraint toolbar. operations and work toolbar you can see the symbols are acquainted with those symbols. Those are details This is composite because when I'm going to draw this in the actual software, you should not find any confusion there you should be very clear that this is the this particular toolbar. Here you in profile we can find things like profile Rectangle Circle, splines, ellipse etc. In constraints, you will see we will see the options in the later slides in operations we can they will have choices to do transformations such as trimming chamfering erasing quickly project etc symmetry all those things and also we have exit workbench once we draw the total thing, then we can go to exit workbench So, that we can be shown our way towards this 3d modeling development that means in three dimensions in the 2d draw engineering drawing we can add that three dimensional features once we exit the workbench Now commonly used tools in the workbench to develop require shape from previous sketch or profile that was developed in sketch or model.

So, here we will find view model sketch based features dress off features transformation features and annotations in view I have already told in sketch based features the first one is called pad Next one is pocket Next one is shaft next one grew hole rip slot so on. So, all those things in dresser features it will be chamfer filat draft slot all those things. So, it depends it goes on and in transformations we can pattern we can mirror we can symmetry all those things are there we can translate different things. Annotations is specifically for denoting name or denoting dimensions etc. Now, coming to profile tool that we discussed in sketcher module, there are different options. The first one is for quadrilaterals where we can find our rectangle oriented rectangle, parallelogram elongated hole all the symbols are there there we get those these names by the symbols here.

So, I have written the names in order of this diagrams here from first to last that is left to right. Now in types of circles we have circle three point Circle Circle by coordinates tritanium Circle three point arc three point arc with limits arcs with center etc. Some other profiles are also there such as ellipse parabola hyperbola spline access point, this axis is specifically used when we are trying to produce cylinders etc. And particularly not in part drying but this is this main use of this axis will be in sheet metals development etc sheet metal drawings etc. Now come into constraints So, once we while developing the sketch or profile, we will be required certain things such as we have to fix a particular distance or length of a particular edge, sometimes we have to see that two circular shapes are concentric with each other sometimes we have to see that a particular circular surface is tangent to some other flat surface to see such things happen, we need to have some constraints there.

So, these constraints are expressed here in constraint definition or constraint box, where we will find different things such as distance length, angle radius tangency, coincidence, concentricity, parallelism perpendicularity, horizontal vertical etc So, on. So, most commonly used are distance radius tangency coincidence and concentricity sometimes perpendicular and horizontal as well others are very used very minimally. So, the that is all about constraints come into several operations possible that is we can do corners chamfers trim, brake quick premix dra and mirror symmetry or translate, rotate etc are projecting intersecting elements etc those are different operations possible. Now coming to this view I have already discussed this view so this there is a little bit of explanation on this you can view that by pausing the video now next to sketch based features once we exit the work exit workbench in sketch or module we will get to use these things these tool bars it's the sketch based feature and next coming up is the desktop features all those things to develop the art to generate 3d modeler component from the particular 2d object created 2d diagram created.

Here options in sketch based if each pad and different kinds of pads are also available. Normal one draft one or otherwise multi pad and hidden pockets also different pockets or types of pockets are available options for different types of pockets. Now coming to chef to guru hole rip slaughter, there are some other options available. Some additional features are as well there. Now in terms of features, once we finished the development of 3d model, we had to have some finishing operations on them or some final machining or fire we have to do some final tests to the component. For those particular passes, there will be options like filat, chamfer, draft, shell, etc.

And sometimes we have to fix the thicknesses or we have to have thread or taps over the holes of certain entities in the developer 3d model. And next one is types of bullets in those types of bullets are these as some examples are there you can see some some of the transformation options we get our translation rotation symmetry, mirror, pattern scaling, taken in order I have explained those things in those orders. So that's all for the theory part where I Try to show you some symbols for several toolbars etc. so that you can get acquainted with those notations and denote how they are denoted in the goi that is graphic user interface of Katia, such as tool for those toolbars and several profiles and all those things. Now, from next session onwards, let us have a hands on practice and I will give you their virtual experience of how each and every feature is used, at least if not everything, how most commonly used profiles are most commonly used features are used in Katia in power drawing.

Now, after that once I show you all the basic things in the part drawing, then I will show you how to develop certain models using part drawing. So, though that will be in the next two sessions nested for video lectures. To have them please stay in touch with this stain. batch with me. Thank you
