So hello from sight pan, Northern Mariana Islands. We are in the Pacific Ocean here, part of the floriana island chain. And we're at the farm today of john McGuire. It's got a lot of fruit trees. I have been here inside pan for a total of seven months, which is a long time for myself. And I've been working a lot of that time we move away from that on his fruit trees here.
Now what happened here, if you didn't know, in the October of last year, is we had the fifth largest typhoon in human history. crash into site pan for 1012 hours. A 200 mile an hour winds. And if you think you know what that's like, trust me you don't. And this used to be a mango tree and is now laying over and it's quite a quite a sight there. But a lot of the trees that you see here, just a little background on this place before we go into details, as these trees are large, as you can see, they were snapped right in half by the typhoon.
And then what I've done and john and i have done is subsequently we've taken all of this wood matter that was laying on the ground that was hacked down and we've turned it into mulch and put it at the base of all these trees which is now now we are in the month of June 2019 and we are seeing the rains slowly coming back and the shadowing you see now is due to some rain clouds, which have come over and it rains for about a minute and then go away and it's back into scorching sun here in the summertime. So what we're going to do is take you a little tour, talk to john, and will give us a little story about each of these trees, where they're from, and what kind of trees they are. And then also, I'll be telling you a little bit about the technique of taking whether damage trees and damaged trees in general lightning struck and whatnot, and how to bring them back.
And this is the aftermath, about six months later with my involvement. And you see, they're just covered with green and they're coming back and some of them are just full of flowers and the fruits are well on their way. So hopefully we'll speak with john next and get right back to you.
