Write books, not books, at least a book. Now, I'm not saying this because I think you're going to get rich quick, or because you'll be on all the international bestseller list, or because hey, I've got a book. Now the speaking gigs will just flow in. But I say write a book. Because if you really want to develop expertise, the sheer act of writing a book, thinking about it, organizing it systematizing it will make you better as a speaker as a communicator, as an expert. Now, these days, everybody has a book.
So simply having a book doesn't help much. But if you don't have a book, it's almost a sign of weakness and embarrassment. It's like, you know, 25 years ago, having a website was news. If you're a company these days, it's expected. If you don't have a website, that would be news. The whole role of books in the media ecosystem is very different than it used to be.
Back in the 1970s. You could write a book, get lucky, get on one talk show that take off things spiral and you get on the bestseller list, just because it was a good book, and you had a little publicity that happened to a very well known psychologist like Dr. Wayne Dyer. If you remember him from the United States in the 70s 80s, and really interesting over the last couple of years ago when he passed away, but he self published a book got on The Tonight Show quickly, and his career exploded. That doesn't happen anymore. It really doesn't. If you want to be successful.
You're going to have to do more than that. But I still think a book is an important part of your overall packaging and positioning. These days, I'm a much bigger fan, frankly. doing online trainings like this, it's faster, it's easier, there's less competition. It can reach people in a more powerful way. But I still think that if you want to be seen as an expert in your industry in your field, you should catalog organized and systematize your thought in a book.
Because a book is harder than an online course it's also a better discipline. So I don't write a lot of books these days, but I have written more than half a dozen. And I still use my thought process for for example, my book media training A to Z, which is included at no cost in this course, as one of the bonuses. You get that and it helps you as a student. If you want to read it, you can if you don't want to if you're not offended, but it helps me really organize my thoughts and make sure there's a logical structure and it doesn't have to be that hard. My recommendation just block off, whether it's 30 minutes, 40 minutes, some amount of time, every day and try to write one thought.
And whether it's two months, three months, four months, you're gonna have a book. So if you really want to be a great at this advanced at this, I do think you need at least one book
