How do you tell if your news meeting interview was effective or not? Look at the bottom line, you have to hold yourself accountable if it's any sort of edited interview, a TV, broadcast radio newspaper online. The bottom line is what from your words out of your mouth get into the final story. If it's not exactly the message you decided and the word for word, quote, you decided, then you're ineffective. Maybe you didn't harm your reputation horribly. But that's the ultimate test.
Did you get exactly what you want? You can't go by whether the reporter or producer tells you you did a good job. You're working for them for free. They're going to tell you You were great, even if they think you were awful. So that's not the test. The test isn't your friends and family saying Oh, saw you on TV.
What else are they going to say the test is did you get the message you want in the final story? That's the test.
