Oh, what do you do with the old press conference and nobody shows up. I hope that doesn't happen. But sometimes there are larger news events going on. And if you have a story of medium interest, but all of a sudden the largest building in town is been toppled over, or there's a five car pileup somewhere it may be difficult for reporters to even get to you. Don't take it personally. nobody wins them all the time.
Here's a way of still getting coverage from your speech at the press conference. Go ahead, give your speech as if there were 50 reporters there. Now. I'm not suggesting you lie or fabricator act like you're calling on people, but simply give your speech at the same venue. Have some colleague of yours, record the speech on video. Now, don't take phony questions and act like they're reporters there but just record the video of your speech.
Then put out a press release and announce your name and announce the fact that you have held a press conference earlier today. And here is a video of the speech. put that out there. Now you get promote that social media, your website every place else, electronic press releases and you still might get coverage, you might get a lot of coverage it might generate calls, the fact that you have video of yourself speaking on the subject is going to make it easier and more likely for you to get TV coverage in the future on this topic and radio coverage. So just because nobody showed up, doesn't mean you can't get coverage out of it. The other thing I've done is, after the annoyed let's say it's 11 o'clock press conference, nobody showed you record your video.
You can simply call other news outlets and say hey, we held this press conference today. I've just emailed you the press release. Would you like to talk to our principal or spokesperson over the phone right now? I have found in numerous situations, whether it's a newspaper reporter or a radio reporter, the response will be Oh, yeah, we meant to count. We meant to send some. But yeah, we'll happy to talk right now.
And you can get as much news coverage that way sometimes, as if everyone showed up at the press conference. So when you're speaking at a press conference, realize, it's not just the event of the press conference. It's about getting news based on your ideas that you're going to talk about. So if you're talking about it, a half an hour after the press conference over the phone, or doing a radio interview, you're still accomplishing your mission. So don't panic. If nobody shows, capture the video, have your statement.
Embedded in your press release, put it on your website, put it on YouTube, and start promoting
