So how do you get to be a talk show host? This question is a little bit different from the central focus of this course, which is how to be a talk show host. But the traditional way of being asked to be a talk show getting your own talk show is to, number one, be in the news a lot, be a news maker, be someone who is interviewed a lot. You could be a politician and activist of some sort. And then you're on so often the network says, Well, why don't you be one of our regular commentators. And they're paying you to be a guest on their shows, but you're not hosting.
And then you sort of fill in as a substitute host when somebody is on vacation or sick. And then you get your own show on that network. That's the most traditional way of getting to host a show, or being so famous from a political campaign. Let someone like Mike Huckabee, run for president develop a big following or Sarah Palin for that matter. Develop a big following, and you're given your own show these days, there is another route and it's the suddenly is easier in some ways harder route. That route is just start your own show on YouTube.
Put everything you have into it the interesting, creative, funny, entertaining, do whatever it takes, build an audience and just grow from there, build your audience, perhaps advertisers or sponsors, if other networks pick you up fine, or just grow on your own. So that is the way that you can absolutely control it. Because let's face it, we can't all just become famous overnight. We can't all run for president. But we can start interviewing people that nothing else in our own neighborhood and putting it on YouTube. So those are the traditional routes of how to be a talk shows Now, back to our main subject, which is how to actually be good as a host
