Positive thinking it's great many aspects of life, it's great with a wife or a husband or life partner is great with a co worker and have someone as a positive thinker upbeat. It will destroy you. during times of crisis. You don't want to go out in front of the media, and just be positive because when that happens, you say, Well, of course the plug is going to be solved by tomorrow, there'll be no more leaking, or no, the fire is not going to spread or absolutely no one else is going to be injured. And then those bad things do happen. And now it's not just that you were wrong.
You were a liar. You were deceiving. You're disreputable. Do not say anything to the media, during a time of crisis that you cannot verify. 100% again, it's human nature to want to be positive, to want to be optimistic. Islam is a great thing.
Every other aspect of life except during a crisis. Do not be optimistic. Now, don't be pessimistic either. Don't so if asked, could this get worse and the whole town go up in flames? Well, sure it could escalate and the whole town could go down in flames. Don't say that either.
You don't want to be optimistic. You don't want to be pessimistic, you want to stick to the facts. Do not guess. Big, big, big trouble. If you guess during a time of crisis. What you do need to do is look at where are we right now?
What's the appropriate answer for right now, if an explosion happened five minutes ago, and you don't even know where your employees are. That's the time to say 100% of our efforts right now. on securing all of our employees and making sure they're safe. So someone asked you who's at fault, is this going to decrease your stock price? It's very acceptable to essentially dodge those questions by saying 100% of our efforts right now are focused on securing the safety of every employee. Now, if it's six weeks later, and everyone's accounted for, and people want to ask you about who is to blame?
Did anyone get fired? You are going to have to deal with those questions. But keep in mind, the timeline. What's the fair minded person going to expect? an organization like yours to say to be talking about right now? If the fire explosion problem crisis just happened five minutes ago, then an initial response may be fine.
That is pretty simple. We're focusing our efforts on stop The fire putting it out. We're doing everything we can to help the people who've already been injured. They're going to be very simple, focused messages that will evolve over time, you can have a great message that's six hours into a crisis that will destroy you. A week later, when local passions and passions in the media may be inflamed even more. Some messages and sound bites that might be great.
One or two or three weeks out, will be awful if it's the day of the crisis, and people can still see flames or bodies or other problems. So you always have to look at your messages through the context of exactly what makes sense now
