You heard me say earlier that nobody really cares about your book. Now, again, I didn't mean to scare you or put you in a bad mood, but just to get you to focus on giving interesting ideas to people that are helpful, not buy my book, buy my book, buy my book, but there is one group that really doesn't care about your book, I'm talking about the people interviewing you. Most of the time, not always, but most of the time, talk show host aren't going to read your book, they're going to look at a summary. They may look at a review. They may look at the press release, but they're not going to read your book, get over it. They're not your market because talk shows don't buy books, they get them for free.
So don't worry about it. Now Larry King once famously said that he never read the books of any author he had on his show because he wanted to be at the same level as his audience. He didn't want to have so much inside information and asked highly specific questions that wouldn't make sense to someone who hadn't read the book. He didn't want to make it that deep. He wanted to give people a taste of it so they could experience the ideas of the author fresh the way he did. Now, maybe that was just an excuse, because he didn't want to work, I don't know.
But his attitude is not at all uncommon. And you just can't waste time being annoyed by it or bother affecting your ego. Just realize that this is an advantage. This is a way for you to talk to one person, as if they were an ideal prospect for buying your book. So don't let it bother you. Explain the premises of your book as if the person didn't know anything other than perhaps the title.
Do that and you'll be in good shape and your ego won't get bruised.
